With the dry season approaching, the risk of fires and explosions is high, especially in residential areas, production facilities, warehouses, and households. To proactively ensure fire safety and rescue operations during the dry season, Phu Tan commune is intensifying its efforts to raise public awareness about fire prevention. The awareness campaigns are conducted through various means, including public address systems, group meetings, and community gatherings, helping residents understand basic fire prevention measures and emergency response skills. Since the beginning of the year, the commune has organized 31 fire safety training sessions for 850 people, providing them with a solid understanding of fire safety techniques and emergency response skills. Ms. Le Thi Sang, residing in Thuong 1 hamlet, shared: “Through the awareness campaigns and training sessions, I understand more about the risks of fire and explosions during the dry season and how to prevent them. My family proactively checks the electrical system, equips ourselves with fire extinguishers, and reminds family members to be careful in their daily lives to avoid unintentional fires.”

Lieutenant Colonel Vo Van Lap, Deputy Head of Phu Tan Commune Police, said: “Through propaganda efforts, people's awareness has improved significantly. However, some households are still careless, especially in the use of electricity and burning garbage. In the coming time, the commune police force will continue to closely monitor the area, strengthen guidance on the use of fire extinguishers and initial fire handling skills so that people can proactively prevent fires.”
Inspections are also carried out regularly, promptly reminding and guiding people to address shortcomings and limitations such as unsafe electricity use, storage of flammable materials, and lack of on-site fire extinguishing equipment. Regarding establishments under fire safety management, the commune reviewed and compiled a list of 268 production and business establishments operating in the area. Through inspections, 100% of establishments complied well with regulations, with no violations detected, and all establishments signed commitments to ensure fire safety. Lieutenant Colonel Vo Van Lap stated: "The commune's police force proactively advises and implements fire prevention measures; strengthens inspections, reminds and guides people to comply with fire safety regulations. At the same time, emphasis is placed on building a local force to ensure readiness to handle situations promptly when they occur."
Simultaneously, Phu Tan commune focuses on strengthening and consolidating local forces and fire safety teams in each hamlet. At the same time, it prepares equipment and personnel according to the "four on-the-spot" principle to promptly respond when fires occur. The commune has 24 fire safety teams and 7 public fire-fighting points. These models are all maintained and operate effectively. According to Mr. Nguyen Chi Son, head of the fire safety team in Hau Giang 2 hamlet, the team has been operating for over two years, with 10 member households and a fire alarm system. When an incident occurs, all other households are aware to assist in rescuing people and property and organizing firefighting. Team members regularly coordinate closely with the hamlet's People's Committee to educate the public on preventing potential fire hazards. The team also regularly conducts fire drills to check equipment and machinery, familiarize themselves with operations, and learn from experience. In addition, each household is equipped with at least one portable fire extinguisher to ensure fire safety and be ready to respond in case of an incident. “The neighborhood is always conscious of fire safety to ensure the safety of lives and property of family members. My family has a portable fire extinguisher to ensure safety in case of fire or explosion,” Mr. Son shared.
During the peak of the dry season, the risk of fire and explosions remains ever-present. From preparing fire extinguishers and checking electrical and gas systems to maintaining vigilance, each citizen is the first line of defense in fire prevention.
