On April 2, 2021, the People's Committee of Da Nang City issued Decision 1099/QD-UBND on the project "Building Da Nang - An Environmental City" for the period 2021-2030. Over the past three years, with the efforts of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Forest Protection Department, various departments, agencies, and local authorities, the city has implemented many effective and sustainable solutions for nature conservation and ecosystem restoration in local areas.

During the period 2021-2024, Da Nang city actively and effectively implemented environmental protection measures through specific actions such as strengthening pollution control from emission sources, investing in improving environmental quality; managing waste, sorting household solid waste at source, minimizing plastic waste, conserving biodiversity, and responding to climate change...
The city also proactively cooperates and attracts investment resources and technical support to strengthen the state management capacity of the sector and localities. Every year, the City People's Committee issues plans to implement the project, specifically regarding biodiversity conservation activities. The city has two nature reserves, Son Tra Nature Reserve and Ba Na - Nui Chua Nature Reserve, which have high levels of biodiversity, with many different ecosystems such as tropical rainforest ecosystems, marine and coastal ecosystems... containing thousands of rare animal and plant species.
According to Deputy Head of the Forest Protection Department Le Manh Hung, the forest area of Son Tra Nature Reserve is 2,520.30 hectares, encompassing evergreen broadleaf tropical rainforest ecosystems on mountainous terrain, grassland ecosystems, and non-flooded shrub ecosystems.
According to incomplete botanical statistics, the nature reserve and buffer zone contain a total of 1,451 plant species, belonging to 162 families, 8 classes, and 4 divisions. Of these, angiosperms (flowering plants) comprise 1,370 species, belonging to 137 families and 2 classes; ferns comprise 68 species, belonging to 21 families and 2 classes; conifers comprise 5 species, belonging to 2 families and 2 classes; and gymnosperms comprise 8 species, belonging to 2 families and 2 classes. Regarding fauna, there are 531 animal species, belonging to 144 families, 48 orders, and 5 classes. These include 45 mammal species, belonging to 21 families and 8 orders; 162 bird species, belonging to 44 families and 15 orders; 77 reptile species, belonging to 17 families and 3 orders; 231 insect species, belonging to 47 families and 12 orders; and 16 fish species, belonging to 14 families and 10 orders. Notably, many animal species listed in the Red Book, such as the brown-footed langur and pangolin, are present. Regarding genetic diversity, the protected area and buffer zone contain 166 endangered, rare, and precious plant species. Of these, 76 species are listed in the 2007 Vietnam Red Book, and 67 species are listed in the IUCN Red List.
Regarding the genetic resources of endangered, rare, and precious animal species in the conservation area and buffer zone, there are 58 endangered, rare, and precious animal species. Of these, 28 species are listed in the 2007 Vietnam Red Book; 31 species are listed in the IUCN Red List… Similar to Son Tra Nature Reserve, Ba Na - Nui Chua Nature Reserve currently has thousands of rare and precious plant and animal species listed in the Red Book and requiring conservation. Fortunately, the city has proactively and actively implemented nature conservation and biodiversity preservation efforts in recent years. Furthermore, the city has effectively participated in implementing many policies and initiatives on biodiversity conservation, such as the Prime Minister 's National Strategy on Biodiversity to 2030, with a vision to 2050; the project to strengthen the prevention and control of biodiversity crimes to 2030, with a vision to 2050; the National Biodiversity Conservation Plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050; and the program for the conservation of endangered, rare, and precious wild animal species prioritized for protection to 2030, with a vision to 2050...
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has recently coordinated with local authorities and relevant units to organize 7 training courses for more than 280 fishermen on the contents of the Fisheries Law and maritime and island regulations; at the same time, it has organized inter-agency patrols to combat prohibited fishing methods in coastal areas and illegal fishing; released 80,000 fish fry of various species into the Cam Le River, Dong Xanh - Dong Nghe Lake area, Hoa Khuong commune, Hoa Vang district to regenerate, restore and protect aquatic resources in the city; and promoted coral reef protection in Son Tra peninsula…
Regarding wildlife protection and rescue, the department organized two inspection campaigns of endangered, rare, and precious aquatic species, releasing nine sharks back into their natural environment as per regulations; conducted 114 mobile and extracurricular awareness campaigns at six secondary schools and eleven communities near forests; prosecuted one suspect for illegally transporting and trading one animal on the list of endangered and rare species; and handled 33 administrative violations, imposing fines totaling 710 million VND.
In addition, inspections and raids were conducted to combat illegal logging; the buying, selling, and transporting of forest products and wild animals in the city; inter-agency coordination was carried out to organize 366 patrols to protect forests and prevent and fight forest fires on the Son Tra peninsula; 10 makeshift camps and 1,026 animal traps were destroyed in the forest; 11 individuals illegally harvesting honey were driven out of the forest; and 3 wild animals were rescued and released back into the forest…
