Italy's anti-doping court has handed midfielder Paul Pogba a four-year ban from playing in Serie A in August 2023 following a doping case.

According to Sky Sport Italia on the afternoon of February 29th, the court issued a ruling in accordance with the request for punishment of the French midfielder from the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) prosecutor. The ban will take effect from September 2023. Pogba has the right to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Pogba was tested for doping on August 20, 2023, when Juventus played Udinese in their Serie A opening match. The 31-year-old midfielder was on the bench for that game. However, the test showed that Pogba had DHEA in his system, a substance that increases testosterone. A second test sample also came back positive in October.

Pogba was suspended as a precaution in September. Since then, Juventus have not allowed the French player to train with them, and have reduced his salary to $2,700 per month as part of a collective agreement between the clubs and the players' association.

Pogba only returned to Juventus in the summer of 2022 on a free transfer from Man Utd. Due to injuries, the 31-year-old midfielder only played 10 games last season and two games this season for "The Old Lady".

During his early stint with Juventus from 2012 to 2016, Pogba won four Serie A titles, two Italian Cups, and two Italian Super Cups. After joining Manchester United for a world- record fee of $116 million in 2016, he added a Europa League and a League Cup to his collection. However, Pogba never fully realized the potential of a player who had won the "Golden Boy" award. After six years on his contract, Manchester United agreed to let Pogba leave on a free transfer.

Pogba's greatest success was winning the 2018 World Cup with the French national team. He scored 11 goals in 91 appearances for the national team, including the goal that made the score 3-1 in the 4-2 World Cup final victory against Croatia. Due to injury, Pogba had to withdraw from the 2022 World Cup squad, a tournament where France lost to Argentina in a penalty shootout in the final.
