On June 2nd, Star News reported that police in Seodaemun District, Seoul, had completed their initial investigation and transferred the files of PSY and five related individuals, including a professor at a university hospital in Seoul who prescribed medication to the singer.
According to the allegations, from February 2022 to July 2025, PSY received prescriptions for two psychotropic drugs, Xanax and Stilnox, without undergoing the required in-person examination process. Authorities suspect that the singer's manager repeatedly received the medication on his behalf at the hospital.
Xanax and Stilnox are medications prescribed to treat sleep disorders, anxiety, depression, or related psychological symptoms. Due to the risk of drug dependence, these are strictly controlled pharmaceuticals in South Korea, requiring a doctor's examination before prescription.

According to current medical law, only the doctor who directly examines a patient is allowed to prescribe medication, and the person receiving the medication must usually be the patient themselves. Some exceptions may apply if the patient is unconscious, immobile, or has other special health problems. According to investigative reports published in the South Korean press, PSY does not fall under these exceptions.
If found guilty, those involved could face a maximum sentence of one year in prison or a fine of up to 10 million won (approximately 190 million VND).
Starting in June 2025, South Korean police reviewed the singer's prescription process after discovering irregularities in his use of sleep medication. The case was first exposed by the media in August 2025.
At the time, P NATION – the singer's management company – admitted to "negligence" and "clear procedural errors" in allowing the incident to occur, but denied allegations of prescribing medication on behalf of someone else or using illegal drugs. The company stated that PSY had been diagnosed with a chronic sleep disorder and had been undergoing long-term treatment under the supervision of a doctor.
The company also emphasized that the singer used the medication correctly, did not abuse psychotropic substances, and argued that the controversy stemmed from the medication dispensing process and prescription methods, and was not related to drug use or prohibited substances.
PSY, born in 1977, is a famous South Korean rapper, singer, and producer. After many years of activity in his home country, he became an international phenomenon in 2012 thanks to Gangnam Style . The song and its "horse-riding" dance created a global sensation, making PSY one of the first South Korean artists to explode onto the international music market.
In November 2012, the Gangnam Style music video surpassed Justin Bieber's Baby to become the most-watched video on YouTube at the time, marking a significant milestone for the Korean music wave on the digital platform.
