'Monster' Hai Bot returns

There were a few times Hai "came out" for a brief moment, and was immediately called a "monster" because of his unique musical style.

That was when he and the band Tiny Monsters released the album Road Home (2011), and together with Hoa Binh Bros, made the show Ai Bang Mo (2017)... and one or two mini shows to "quench" the audience's thirst. For the rest, Hai Bot almost disappeared without a trace from the media.

Fans can only cry silently, while their artists just leisurely live in their own space, not wanting to "break out of their cocoon".

After many years of absence from the stage, Hai will meet the audience again in the show CAM Concert: see , taking place at Quan Ngua Sports Palace (Hanoi) on the evening of August 10 and at Hoa Binh Theater (HCMC) on the evening of August 24. This is clearly good news for those who love the music of this strange man.

People often say I think like a child, not grown up yet. What I think is not true for my age. Maybe they are right.

Wearing all black to the appointment, Hai Bot looked more plump and had less acne on his face. In general, he looked more handsome than when he appeared before the audience eight years ago on the show Ai dang mo.

Asked who "dragged" Hai Bot out this time? He laughed, not knowing how to answer.

Someone invited him, and when he felt it was a good fit, he started singing. Then suddenly, Hai told Tuoi Tre about his more than 10 years of silence.

He clarified that "Hai is not in hiding" as rumored. He is still alive and breathing regularly.

His daily schedule starts at 8am, 9am, then he goes out into the street, has breakfast, has a cup of coffee, then goes to "work", around 9am, 10am "he goes to sleep like a chicken".

The workplace that Hai mentioned was a private room in a famous coffee shop that the owner - who was also a friend - had reserved for Hai.

There was a computer there and he sat there tinkering, learning, researching sound all day. And so, years passed like a habit. If he didn’t do it, he would miss it, he couldn’t bear it.

The song Con Ga (also known as Trai Dat Rong ) was recently recorded by Hai Bot and posted on Hai Bot's YouTube channel on July 18.

Recently, to prepare for the show, Hai practiced his voice and the guitar. It had been many years since he had been on stage, and he was very nervous. For many artists, performing is a completely normal thing, but not for Hai. He loves music but does not like the feeling of performing. He also does not consider himself an artist because "every time I think about it, I feel dizzy and pressured".

How does it feel to hold the guitar and sing again? Hai admitted that it was "a bit difficult". After many years of not practicing, now both his voice and his playing are not as he intended. When he sings, it's like someone else is singing, not him. That's something he didn't expect. It took Hai quite a while to get used to that feeling again.

Hai Bot said music can be everything to someone but not everything to him. He makes music not for the audience, but for himself.

So from the beginning, Hai chose to stand aside from showbiz to sing songs full of contemplation about life with his own simple and independent feelings and passions. As he confided, they were all about family and friends, nothing profound or formidable.

Just like life is colorful, so is music and art. There is music that serves the listener and there is also other types of music.

What is Hai Bot researching that is so fascinating? As if he had been enlightened, he spoke at length about the sound wizards in the world whom he called "my masters". They "are the ones who bring new feelings, new winds to this rather ordinary, even boring life".

Hai shared that since entering the world of sound, he has been opened to a much larger space. There, the love of music of many people in the world is different and the way people create music in the world is also extremely diverse.

Hai told about a jazz "master" in America. He said music does not always appear in a song.

It only appears at some point in the song but stays at the very end and the last image the audience sees should be the music.

He also talked about how sound engineers are meticulous with every note in a piece of music and how he sees them as miracle workers.

According to Hai, they have the ability to reproduce sounds in the most authentic way. They are also the ones who possess unique sounds that no one else has.

Hai said that his later songs do not try to create a certain lyric or note. Instead, he will follow, listen to his own thoughts and then copy them down. And so, he is moving on to a new "chapter" with new anticipation, boredom and joy.

Hai sat there. His silver hair stood out like the demons of time - perhaps sparing no one, even this "innocent, sinless person".

At 42 years old, he doesn't think he's old, and has never wondered whether he's mature or immature.

Hai said he just enjoyed himself and thought about comfortable, happy things. He didn’t think about how much time had passed. He just liked to immerse himself in that joy like a dream he didn’t want to wake up from.

The luckiest thing that Hai has in life is having a family that indulges his personal preferences. Hai has a mother and sister who, although they often scold him, never force him to do this or that.

This time Hai Bot returned, perhaps as quickly as before and without any expectations or promises.

As for his audience, they are also familiar with that artist, the one who has songs full of life but escapes from life, living in parallel in his own world full of joy, so no one wonders.

Just know that when he comes back, they will sing together The Way Home , Through the Door of Time , Round Earth ... Songs for everyone.
