Hai Bot - a unique musical phenomenon in the music industry - Photo: Provided by the artist
There were a few times when Hai suddenly "shone brightly," and he was immediately called a "monster" because of his unique and unconventional musical style.
That was when he and the band Little Monsters released the album "The Way Home" (2011), and with Hoa Binh Bros did the show " Everyone Dreams " (2017)... and one or two mini-shows to satisfy the audience's thirst. Otherwise, Hai Bot has almost completely disappeared from the media spotlight.
Fans could only cry silently, while their favorite artists continued to live peacefully in their own little world, reluctant to "break out of their cocoon."
After many years away from the stage, Hai will reunite with his audience in the CAM Concert: see show , taking place at the Quan Ngua Sports Palace (Hanoi) on the evening of August 10th and at the Hoa Binh Theater (Ho Chi Minh City) on the evening of August 24th. This is clearly good news for those who love the music of this extraordinary artist.
Hai Bot
Where are they hiding?
Dressed in an all-black outfit for the date, Hai Bot looked healthier and had fewer pimples. Overall, he looked more handsome than when he appeared before the audience eight years ago on the show "Everyone Dreams".
When asked who had "dragged" Hai Bot out into the open this time, he chuckled, not knowing how to answer.
Someone invited me, and if I felt a connection with it, I would sing. Then, suddenly, Hai spoke to Tuoi Tre newspaper about his more than 10 years of silence.
He clarified that "Hai is not in hiding" as rumored. He is still alive and breathing.
His daily schedule starts at 8 or 9 in the morning, then he heads out, has breakfast, drinks some coffee, and then heads to "work," usually falling asleep around 9 or 10 a.m.
The workplace that Hai mentioned was a private room in a well-known cafe, reserved specifically for Hai by the owner – who was also his friend.
There was a computer there, and he would sit there tinkering, researching, and studying sound all day long. Years passed like that, and it became a habit. He couldn't stand not doing it; he missed it.
The song "The Chicken" (also known as " The Earth Is Round ") was recently recorded and uploaded by Hai Bot to his YouTube channel on July 18th.
Recently, in preparation for the show, Hai has been practicing his vocals and playing the guitar. It's been many years since he's been on stage, and he's very nervous. For many artists, performing is a normal part of life, but not for Hai. He loves music but doesn't like the feeling of performing. He also doesn't consider himself an artist because "every time I think about it, I feel dizzy and pressured."
What does it feel like to pick up the guitar and sing again? Hai admits it was "a little difficult." After many years without practice, both his voice and guitar playing didn't feel right. When he sang, it sounded like someone else was singing, not him. That was something he hadn't expected. Hai had to spend quite a bit of time getting used to that feeling again.
Hai Bot said that music might be everything to some people, but it's not everything to him. He makes music not for the audience, but for himself alone.
Therefore, from the beginning, Hai chose to stay on the sidelines of showbiz to sing songs full of contemplation about life, expressing his simple yet independent feelings and desires. As he confessed, it's all about family and friends, nothing profound or extraordinary.
Just like life is full of variety, so is music and art. There's music that serves the listener, and there's also other kinds of music.
Hai Bot
Hai Bot will meet his audience again at the CAM Concert: see show this August in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
That sounds amazing!
What is Hai Bot researching that he's so fascinated by? As if gloating, he spoke at length about the world's sound wizards whom he considers "my mentors." He claims they "are the ones who bring new sensations, fresh breezes to this rather ordinary, even boring, life."
Hai shared that since entering the world of sound, he has gained a much broader perspective. There, he sees the diverse love of music shared by people around the world, and the ways in which people create music are incredibly varied.
Hai told me about a jazz "master" in America. He said that music doesn't always appear in a single piece of music.
It only appears at a certain point in the song, but it remains until the very end, and the final image the audience sees should be the music.
He also talked about how sound engineers meticulously work with each note in a piece of music, and he viewed them as miracle workers.
According to Hai, they have the ability to reproduce sounds in the most authentic way. They also possess unique sound signatures that no one else has.
Hai said that his later songs didn't try to create a specific lyric or melody. Instead, he would follow and listen to his own train of thought and then transcribe it. In this way, he was moving on to a new "chapter" with new anticipation, boredom, and joy.

Hai sat there. The strands of gray hair stood out prominently, like the vengeful spirits of time – which would probably spare no one, not even this "innocent man guilty of countless sins."
At 42, he doesn't consider himself old, nor has he ever worried about whether he's mature or not.
Hai said he just wanted to enjoy himself and think about pleasant, happy things, without thinking about how much time had passed. He preferred to immerse himself in that joy like a dream he didn't want to wake up from.
The greatest blessing Hai has in life is having a family that indulges his personal preferences. Hai has a mother and sister who, although they often scold him, have never forced him to do things in a certain way.
This time, Hai Bot's return will probably be as fleeting as all the previous times, without any expectations or promises.
As for his audience, they were already familiar with the artist—a man whose songs were deeply rooted in life but who also seemed to escape from it, living parallel to his own world of pleasure—so no one questioned it.
All they know is that when he returns, they will sing "The Way Home ," " Through the Window of Time ," "The Earth Is Round "... Songs for everyone.
