Focus on investing in standard schools.

The equipment is outdated.

The entire Hai Ba Trung district currently has 62 public schools, 29 private schools, and 81 independent private preschools. In 2024, the city assigned the district the target of having 2 schools newly recognized and 12 schools re-recognized as meeting national standards.

However, according to Do Phuong Nga, Head of the Finance and Planning Department of the district, a review conducted in the first quarter of 2024 revealed that one kindergarten, two primary schools, and five secondary schools have equipment that does not meet the requirements for new accreditation and re-accreditation, and therefore need investment for upgrading.

Of these, one school that needs new accreditation is Quynh Mai Primary School. Although it completed renovations and added floors in 2023 with modern facilities and additional functional rooms, the equipment throughout the school and in these rooms does not meet standards, especially the land area for building the school does not accommodate its activities.

With 7 schools requiring re-accreditation, all renovated between 2021 and 2023, some equipment is currently unusable, such as desks, chairs, storage cabinets, and indoor and outdoor playground equipment. Some equipment needs additional investment: computers and printers for teaching or use in the computer lab; touchscreen TVs for classrooms and subject rooms; LED screens for the outdoor stage and school gate, etc. Therefore, investing in equipment to meet national standards by 2024 for these schools is extremely urgent.

Nearly 199 billion VND invested to meet standards.

In response to the needs of schools, at a recent thematic session, the Hai Ba Trung District People's Council passed two very important resolutions for the education and training sector. These are the Resolution approving the policy of "Investing in equipment to meet national standards by 2024," which involves the purchase of equipment for 8 public schools to meet national standards by 2024, ensuring compliance with design standards. This includes: newly recognizing 1 school (Quynh Mai Primary School) and re-recognizing 7 schools (Hoa Hong Kindergarten, Le Ngoc Han Primary School, Ha Huy Tap Secondary School, Quynh Mai Secondary School, Vinh Tuy Secondary School, Trung Nhi Secondary School, and Le Ngoc Han Secondary School).

At the same time, a Resolution was passed approving the investment plan for the project "Procurement of minimum teaching equipment for grades 5 and 9 in the 2024-2025 school year" for public primary and secondary schools in the area.

“The District People's Committee is the investor, and the District Investment and Construction Project Management Board is in charge of managing these two projects. Both projects will be implemented in 2024-2025 using the district budget, and are of paramount importance to socio -economic development, contributing to improving the quality of education in the area,” affirmed Tran Quyet Thang, Standing Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee.

Implementing the resolutions and the "Plan for arranging facilities and student enrollment at public schools to meet the goal of building national standard schools in the 2021-2025 period" of the District Party Committee, the District Investment and Construction Project Management Board has coordinated with relevant units to urgently develop projects and actively carry out investment in construction, renovation, repair, and equipment procurement to build schools that meet standards;... The total investment this year is expected to reach over 198 billion VND.

Specifically, the project to renovate and repair 6 schools has a total investment of over 161 billion VND. In addition, a package for purchasing equipment for 5 secondary schools, 2 primary schools, and 1 kindergarten is being implemented, along with a package for purchasing minimum teaching equipment for grades 5 and 9 at 19 primary schools, 15 secondary schools, and the Vocational Education and Continuing Education Center.

According to Ngo The Anh, Deputy Director of the Investment and Construction Project Management Board of Hai Ba Trung District, since the beginning of the year, the district has renovated and repaired 5 schools to ensure that their facilities meet national standards in 2024 (Trung Hien Primary School, Ngo Quyen Primary School, Tay Son Primary School, Tay Son Secondary School, Vinh Tuy Kindergarten); renovated and expanded the Vocational Education and Continuing Education Center and Trung Hien Primary School and Nguyen Phong Sac Secondary School; built the second campus of Vo Thi Sau Primary School and Anh Sao Kindergarten; and renovated and repaired Sao Sang Kindergarten, Dong Tam Primary School, and Le Van Tam Primary School.

"All projects are progressing on schedule, but with only one month left until the start of the 2024-2025 school year, we have requested that contractors speed up construction so that the children in the area can start the new school year on time," Mr. Ngo The Anh shared.

During the 2021-2025 term, the People's Committee of Hai Ba Trung District completed many projects to meet the rapidly increasing number of students, including projects to build new schools or renovate and upgrade existing ones, significantly contributing to the addition of schools, classrooms, and learning spaces. We will continue to coordinate with relevant departments and agencies to report to the City People's Committee to implement investment in high schools in accordance with the plan.
