According to Mr. Yoshida Kenji, Chief Representative of the Japan Tourism Agency in Vietnam, 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan.
The number of Vietnamese tourists traveling to Japan has reached an all-time high of 573,000, a 115% increase compared to 2019 before Covid-19.
In just the first five months of 2024, the number of Vietnamese visitors to Japan reached approximately 284,300, the highest ever, representing a 108.5% increase compared to the same period in 2023, and is continuing its strong upward trend.
In 2024, alongside the goal of increasing the number of Vietnamese tourists visiting Japan, JNTO introduced a new logo and message with the themes "Showcasing the beauty of Japanese localities" and "Providing high-end tourism services only available in Japan".

“JNTO’s main mission is to promote tourism from Vietnam to Japan, but we also understand that ‘tourism’ is about people-to-people exchange from both sides. From that perspective, we hope that more and more Japanese tourists will return to Vietnam and visit Da Nang .”
"We want to convey the charm of Da Nang to Japanese tourists," said Yoshida Kenji.
According to Nguyen Thi Hoai An, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Tourism, Japan is a traditional and stable tourist market for Vietnam in general and Da Nang in particular.
In 2023, with the resumption of the direct Da Nang - Narita flight operated by Vietnam Airlines, the total number of Japanese tourists visiting Da Nang reached approximately 121,000, a recovery of 65% compared to 186,000 in 2019.
In the first five months of 2024, the number of Japanese tourists reached over 65,000, and is projected to grow compared to 2023.
Although tourism professionals are somewhat concerned that the Japanese market hasn't fully recovered due to global economic difficulties, Da Nang remains focused on sustainably maintaining the Japanese market and offering new products, services, and the best experiences for Japanese tourists.
In 2024, Da Nang offered tourists a series of unique events and festivals such as the Brazil-Vietnam Football Festival, the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival, the Da Nang Enjoyment Festival, the BRG Open Golf Championship… along with many new tourism products such as Bach Dang Walking Street and Nguyen Van Troi Bridge; Danang Downtown and the Symphony of River Grand Concert; and the "Return to Heritage" tourist train connecting Hue and Da Nang.
"I proposed to the Japanese Consulate in Da Nang and the Japan Tourism Agency to connect Japanese partners so they can participate in the product and service chain of the destination to diversify and professionalize tourism products and services in Da Nang, as well as contribute to promoting Japanese culture," Ms. Hoai An shared.
The workshop also provided an opportunity for Da Nang businesses to update themselves on new and suitable information, destinations, and products, enabling them to proactively implement tourism plans and programs connecting the two countries.
Easier immigration policies between the two countries will contribute to boosting tourist exchanges between Da Nang (Vietnam) and Japan, aiming for rapid and sustainable development.
