Quang Lac has favorable natural conditions, with low-lying hills and mountains, for chestnut tree cultivation. Since 2003, the locality has implemented a chestnut tree planting model and identified it as one of the commune's key products. The locality is also implementing projects to support people in growing chestnuts.
According to current statistics, Quang Lac has over 100 hectares of chestnut orchards, with an average annual yield of tens of tons, bringing in an income of 300-400 million VND per year. Ten chestnut orchards in the commune are implementing a production model linked to experiential tourism .
The chestnut products have been registered with a brand and label, attracting many customers from within and outside the province to come to Quang Lac to place orders for chestnuts to resell. Chestnut growers here say that currently, supply in the area cannot meet demand; everything produced is sold immediately.
Besides fresh and roasted chestnuts, the people of Quang Lac commune have created many high-quality products made from chestnuts, such as chestnut milk, mooncakes made from chestnuts, and chestnut sticky rice, which have been well received by the public.
In the coming period, Quang Lac commune will continue to guide villages and people to expand production and replicate effective models in the area; and improve the skills and knowledge of farmers through vocational training and in-depth workshops.
In 2020, fresh chestnuts from Lang Son were honored by the Vietnam General Association of Agriculture and Rural Development with the "Golden Brand of Vietnamese Agriculture 2020". Currently, several chestnut growing facilities in Lang Son City and Cao Loc District have been certified as meeting OCOP standards with 3 to 4 stars.
