After a two-year absence from prime-time television since "Heart Rescue Station ," Quang Su reappears with a different image in the film " Under the Bright Window ." The actor said he was nervous, unsure whether the audience would accept his new role after his previous edgy, villainous character.
During filming in residential areas and local markets, he was constantly recognized and greeted by the locals. Viewers still call him Cong from "Our Family Suddenly Happy" or Nghia from "Heart Rescue Station ".
In the new film, Quang Sự plays Sinh, also known as "Sinh Sự." He was captivated from the moment he read the script. "Right from the scene at the market, Sinh haggles, then readily gives 500 grams of meat to an elderly woman in difficult circumstances. Sinh is a single father, living with his elderly father and his younger sister who is often mischievous but kind and optimistic," the actor recounted.
The film's main setting was the rooftop of an old apartment building; the crew had to climb five flights of stairs and navigate a cramped attic to reach it. Quang Su recalls the haunting days of filming under the scorching Hanoi sun at 11-12 noon.
"The weather was so hot that going outside made us instinctively squint, but in front of the camera, we still had to act cheerful and talk happily," he recounted.
The scorching heat became the biggest challenge for the entire film crew. The costume and makeup teams wiped the sweat off the actors.
Acting alongside big names like People's Artist Bui Bai Binh and Meritorious Artist Chi Trung, Quang Su doesn't feel pressured. He sees this as an opportunity to learn acting experience and how to handle situations from talented actors.
Explaining his "disappearance" in 2025 despite receiving an invitation from VFC, Quang Su said he was busy with two film projects and one television series.
Quang Sự revealed that his first blockbuster film, " To Be Continued 2 ," was released in 2014. This success led to numerous offers for subsequent projects such as "The Female Tycoon," "Haunted Apartment," "Red Gloves," and "The Listener"... However, the actor doesn't feel pressured about film revenue.
"I don't think too much about the numbers. When a project achieves good results in both content and market, I'm happy for the team, the producers, and the investors. I hope the Vietnamese film market will become increasingly vibrant, with more films reaching the trillion-VND mark and even being exported abroad so that audiences have more quality choices," Quang Su shared.
While admitting to having had some failed films himself, Quang Su believes it's necessary to distinguish between artistic success and box office revenue.
"Many films win awards at major film festivals but have a limited audience in theaters. I just try to do the best I can. The success or failure of a film depends on many factors such as the release date and marketing strategy…," he emphasized.
