“My family was one of the first five households to come to Quang Thua to clear land and establish a village for growing persimmons and coffee. At that time, Quang Thua was still a wild valley on the edge of Tuyen Lam, uninhabited,” recalled Mr. Le Tan Giao, a resident of Quang Thua residential area, An Son 2 neighborhood, Xuan Huong ward, Da Lat. Mr. Giao said that from 1977-1978, when the government called on people to reclaim land to grow cassava and coffee, five households trekked through the forest and along streams to clear land and establish Quang Thua village.
“It’s called Quang Thua because the original inhabitants were mostly from Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, and Thua Thien Hue,” Mr. Giao continued. Today, Quang Thua is located right on the An Son road extending to the Tuyen Lam tourist area, with a smooth asphalt road. Fifty years ago, Quang Thua was almost completely isolated from the dreamy city of Da Lat; residents who wanted to reach Quang Thua had to trek through the forest. Not far, only 6 km from the city center, Quang Thua felt like an isolated piece of land. “Back then, people mainly lived in wooden houses here, clearing land to grow coffee and persimmons. They only went to Da Lat once a week or once a month to buy rice, oil, fish sauce, and salt, mostly on foot because there were no roads for vehicles,” the old farmer confided.

“Quang Thua is like a small valley, surrounded by forests, from the Tuyen Lam Lake National Tourist Area forest to the Ta Nung forest… all the residents live nestled in the heart of the forest,” shared Ms. Tran Thi Kim Van, a resident of Quang Thua. Because it's situated amidst vast pine forests, Quang Thua is tranquil, with an atmosphere fragrant with pine pollen. Residents make a living by growing coffee, persimmons, and strawberries; their lives are peaceful and serene, like a passing season in the city. And today, there are small clusters of homestays run by Quang Thua residents to welcome tourists who want to experience life in the forest. Ms. Pham Thi Hue , a tourism worker, said that the walking route through the Quang Thua forest is very popular with tourists because it's close to the city yet still breathes the fresh air of the green forest.
“Quang Thua residential area is not crowded, with only 150 households, quite isolated, located within An Son 2 neighborhood,” shared Mr. Tran Cong Han, Secretary of the neighborhood Party branch. Mr. Han is very proud of Quang Thua, a place free from smog and social vices, where residents keep the neighborhood very green and beautiful.
Here in Quang Thua, the residents prioritize maintaining a clean and green environment; the village roads are always spotless. Flowers are planted everywhere, blooming year-round. Quang Thua has established a local security team that also protects the forest, regularly patrolling, safeguarding the forest, preventing illegal logging, and warning of forest fires. Residents participate enthusiastically; those with land plant flowers, and those with the strength patrol, creating a safe and beautiful living environment.

Right at the An Son - Tuyen Lam Lake intersection, there's a large rock marking the 1.4 km long road that starts from the main road and runs into Quang Thua. This road is a testament to unity, as the local people and the government joined hands to transform the old, unpaved road into a paved one, like a silk ribbon amidst the pine forests. “The paved road has two lanes, making travel much easier. The total cost was 5 billion VND, with Quang Thua residents contributing over 2 billion VND, along with the government, to complete this beautiful road in 2025. The road is lined with cherry blossoms and jacaranda trees, promising vibrant blooms in the coming seasons,” Mr. Tran Cong Han added enthusiastically.
