Replanted coffee trees yield 1.2 to 1.5 times more than old, unplanted coffee trees.
Quang Tri province currently has nearly 3,707 hectares of coffee plantations, of which 3,434 hectares are producing crops, with an estimated yield of 13 quintals of coffee beans per hectare, and an estimated production of over 4,464 tons. Most of the coffee plantations replanted under the Quang Tri province's coffee replanting and sustainable development project from 2017-2020 are growing and developing well, with many already beginning to yield harvests. For plantations replanted using new planting methods, the yield reaches 15 tons of fresh fruit per hectare, 1.2-1.5 times higher than older plantations. For plantations replanted using pruning methods, the yield reaches 18-20 tons per hectare.

The organization of production, quality improvement, and branding of Khe Sanh coffee have made significant progress, creating a shift in the coffee consumer market towards the use of pure roasted and ground Arabica coffee and branded coffee.
Currently, the province has over 1,000 hectares of coffee production under linked and certified farming systems, concentrated in the communes of Huong Phung, Huong Son, Huong Tan, and Khe Sanh town (Huong Hoa district). 5 hectares of coffee are certified as meeting organic conversion standards, and approximately 20-30% of the coffee area, covering about 1,000 hectares, uses organic and biological fertilizers and pesticides.
Many coffee production and processing cooperatives have chosen to pursue the development of clean, high-quality coffee. These are crucial steps in building and restoring the Khe Sanh coffee brand, as well as increasing the added value of this industry in the future.
Implementing the Project on Replanting and Sustainable Development of Coffee Trees in Quang Tri Province for the period 2017-2020, and extending to 2025, the Quang Tri Department of Agriculture and Environment has proactively issued action plans; promulgated technical procedures for replanting Arabica coffee in the area to serve as a basis for training and guiding farmers in application; and Huong Hoa district has issued a resolution approving the Project on converting and restoring some areas of land used for low-yield crops in Huong Hoa district for the period 2022-2025, with a vision to 2030.

To promptly select and breed high-quality seed sources for replanting, the Department of Agriculture and Environment directed the Plant Protection and Crop Production Sub-Department and the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center to coordinate with the National Agricultural Extension Center and non- governmental organizations to implement several research projects and experimental programs to select and breed new, high-quality coffee varieties. As a result, two Arabica coffee varieties, THA1 and TN9, were selected that meet the conditions and standards to be added to the production variety structure in the province.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment also coordinated with other departments and agencies to implement many activities to support organizations, individuals, and businesses involved in coffee production and processing in the province. To date, the coffee product from Huong Hoa district has been granted collective trademark protection by the Intellectual Property Office (Ministry of Science and Technology) for the brand "Khe Sanh," creating favorable conditions for establishing its position in the market.
The target is to have 5,200 - 5,500 hectares of coffee.
To date, Huong Hoa district has developed 6 ground coffee and roasted coffee bean products that have received OCOP certification, including 5 coffee products that have achieved 4 stars and 1 product that has achieved 3 stars from businesses and cooperatives; 1 OCOP 4-star product is currently undergoing the application process for 5-star recognition.

Quang Tri's agricultural sector is also actively connecting and inviting units and businesses (Pun Coffee Co., Ltd., Chan May Organic Ecological Agriculture Cooperative; Khe Sanh Agricultural Products Cooperative, etc.) to link with cooperatives, cooperative groups, and farmer groups producing coffee on a scale of over 100 hectares, concentrated in Huong Phung, Huong Son, Huong Tan communes, and Khe Sanh town (Huong Hoa district). At the same time, it supports coffee production and trading businesses in the province, giving them opportunities to promote, introduce, and sell Quang Tri Arabica coffee products to customers nationwide.
Slow Forest Coffee (Denmark) has signed agreements with households, cooperatives, and businesses in the area to implement a high-quality coffee supply chain based on an agroforestry model, building an agroforestry coffee raw material area with a linked consumption of over 1,000 tons of green coffee beans.
According to Mr. Ho Xuan Hoe, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quang Tri province, with the strong transformation process and the involvement of relevant parties, people and businesses, Quang Tri province has successfully developed Khe Sanh coffee, a specialty coffee that has consistently ranked among the top 1 best specialty coffees in Vietnam and is ranked first among specialty coffees in Southeast Asia and Asia for many years. Khe Sanh coffee is aiming for geographical indication certification, and the productivity, quality, and awareness of coffee growers are constantly improving.

According to Mr. Hoè, in the coming time, Quang Tri's agricultural sector will continue to implement the coffee development plan until 2030, aiming to reach 5,200 - 5,500 hectares, enhancing the potential and position of Khe Sanh coffee in the domestic and international markets, and especially striving to increase the income of coffee growers by 30 to 50% compared to the current level.
Accordingly, Quang Tri's agricultural sector continues to implement several key solutions: researching and issuing new policies to promote the development of specialty coffee and high-quality coffee to expand acreage and improve productivity and quality; submitting to the Provincial People's Committee a plan for the development of high-quality coffee growing areas for the period 2025-2030, with a vision to 2050; planning and selecting suitable growing areas, managing seed sources well in the area, and building high-tech farming models and ecological organic coffee production as a basis for replication.
Quang Tri's agricultural sector will strengthen the operations of the Khe Sanh Coffee Association as well as coffee production and trading enterprises and cooperatives in the area; promote the invitation of non-governmental organizations and international organizations on nature conservation to support the development of production and consumption linkages for coffee products in the area; and form value chains linking enterprises, farmers, and cooperatives from production to consumption, thereby improving and stabilizing coffee prices.
