- After numerous schedule adjustments, the Mau Son Eco- tourism Complex and Cable Car Project is entering a new implementation phase. With the determined support of Lang Son province and the commitment from the investor, construction of the departure station, arrival station, cable car line, and several auxiliary facilities will be completed from Q2/2026 to the end of Q2/2028, in accordance with the approved detailed project plan.
Approved in principle since 2018, the Mau Son Eco-tourism Complex and Cable Car Project was expected to create a breakthrough for Lang Son's tourism industry. However, the unprecedented impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and numerous fluctuations in the domestic and international economies have caused the project to undergo several schedule adjustments. After nearly eight years, Decision No. 1095/QD-UBND dated June 17, 2026, of the Lang Son Provincial People's Committee on the third adjustment of the investment policy is opening a new phase with more specific commitments regarding progress, resources, and responsibilities of all parties involved.
Overcoming obstacles to accelerate the project.
As a key project in the development strategy of the Mau Son National Tourist Area, the Mau Son ecological tourism complex and cable car project has always received special attention from the Lang Son Provincial Party Committee and People's Committee. Since its investment approval in 2018, the project has been expected to create a modern resort and entertainment area, adding a new highlight to local tourism.
However, like many large projects nationwide, the project was severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Supply chains were disrupted, construction investment activities were interrupted, and the tourism market was almost frozen for an extended period. Following the pandemic, fluctuations in the global and domestic economies continued to impact the financial and real estate markets and the ability to mobilize investment resources.
In this context, instead of letting the project drag on, Lang Son province proactively collaborated with businesses to overcome each difficulty. Numerous specialized meetings were held to review progress, assess the reasons for delays, and agree on solutions. Departments and agencies were tasked with coordinating with investors to complete legal documents, update planning, resolve procedures related to land, construction, and the environment; and prepare the necessary conditions for land clearance.

The Provincial People's Committee's issuance of Decision No. 1095/QD-UBND dated June 17, 2026, adjusting the investment policy for the third time, not only resolves obstacles arising during implementation but also clearly defines the implementation roadmap in accordance with actual conditions. This is considered an important step for the project to move from the preparation phase to synchronous implementation.
Comrade Doan Thanh Son, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Lang Son province, said: "The Mau Son ecological tourism complex and cable car project is of special importance to the development of tourism in the province and contributes to promoting socio-economic development. Despite facing many objective difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic and economic fluctuations, the province has always persistently supported the enterprise, focusing on resolving obstacles, completing legal procedures, and creating the most favorable conditions for the project to be implemented. After adjusting the investment policy, the Provincial People's Committee has resolutely directed relevant departments, agencies, and communes to closely coordinate with the investor, accelerate land clearance, and ensure the project is implemented on schedule as committed."
The proactive approach of the provincial government not only builds confidence among investors but also affirms Lang Son's determination to improve the investment environment and attract large corporations. Upon completion, Mau Son will have additional high-quality tourism products, contributing to the effective exploitation of its natural and cultural potential, creating jobs, and increasing income for local people.
Commitment of resources, guarantee of progress.
According to Decision No. 1095/QD-UBND, the project will be implemented in two phases with a total area of 692.26 hectares. Along with adjusting the implementation schedule, the Provincial People's Committee also approved a total investment capital of VND 7,352.748 billion, of which phase I is VND 4,898.748 billion and phase II is VND 2,454 billion.
The investment phasing approach is considered appropriate given the current conditions, allowing investors to focus resources on key projects while ensuring feasibility during implementation.
Accordingly, from Q2/2026 to Q2/2028, legal procedures ensuring project implementation will be completed; construction of project components including the departure station, arrival station, cable car line, and other project components will be implemented and completed according to the approved detailed construction plan.
This is a significant milestone because the cable car line will become a distinctive tourism product, opening up more convenient access to the Mau Son peak area and attracting tourists right from the early stages of the project.
After completing the key infrastructure components, from now until Q2/2031, the investor will continue to construct the resort hotel complex, event center, commercial and service area, indoor and outdoor entertainment area, food and shopping area, cultural area, plaza, parking lot, and internal transportation system. By Q4/2032, all remaining components will be completed, and the project will be fully operational.
According to experts, prioritizing the completion of key components in the initial phase will help the project quickly become effective, generating revenue to continue investing in the remaining components. At the same time, once the cable car line is operational, the attractiveness of the Mau Son National Tourist Area will be significantly enhanced, creating further impetus for attracting investment in service, trade, and resort sectors.
Nearly eight years after its investment plan was approved, the Mau Son Eco-tourism Complex and Cable Car Project is facing a significant opportunity for transformation. The provincial government's determination to overcome obstacles and improve the investment environment, along with the clear commitment of the enterprise regarding progress and resources, are crucial prerequisites for the project's early realization. Upon completion, the project will not only contribute to making Mau Son a world-class tourist destination but also create new momentum for the socio-economic development of Lang Son in the coming period.
