Page Ynetnews recently reported on the encounter between the above-mentioned black whip snake and a hedgehog that took place in the town of Shoham, Central Israel in August.
A passerby discovered the snake lying motionless on the grass while walking his dog, clutching a hedgehog in its mouth. Israel Nature and Parks Authority (INPA) ecologist, specializing in reptiles, Aviad Bar was then called to the scene.
Mr. Bar determined it was a black whip snake. “It seems the snake tried to eat the hedgehog. He realized he had made a serious mistake and decided to give up the meal. However, the hedgehog's sharp quills prevent the snake from releasing its prey, leading to a tragic end for both sides," said Mr. Bar.
