Rashford's chances of joining Barcelona are dwindling.

Instead of signing Marcus Rashford, Barcelona are considering recruiting veteran Ivan Perisic this summer.

According to Bild , coach Hansi Flick wants to sign Perisic, who recently ended his contract at PSV and is currently a free agent. Despite being 36 years old, the Croatian star had a breakout season at PSV with 16 goals and 8 assists in all competitions.

Perisic's experience could be beneficial to Barcelona's current squad, which lacks players with strong personality and character. Perisic would serve as a backup for the wing-back duo of Lamine Yamal and Raphinha.

Coach Flick previously worked with Perisic for a season at Bayern Munich, during which the "Bavarian giants" won the Champions League in the 2019/20 season. Croatian media reported that Coach Flick called Perisic to invite him to play for Barcelona.

According to Mundo Deportivo , Perisic was targeted by Barcelona to strengthen their left wing position last season, but the deal did not materialize.

The fact that Perisic is available for free transfer, coupled with a reasonable salary, gives Barcelona the confidence to complete this deal. This also means that targets like Rashford or Luis Diaz may be overlooked by Barcelona.

On May 31st, Marca reported that negotiations between Barcelona and Rashford had reached a deadlock. Rashford is willing to take a pay cut and wants to join the reigning La Liga champions more than any other club. However, Barcelona is unwilling to meet Manchester United's £40 million transfer fee.
