Is it time for Real to sell Vinicius?

Former goalkeeper Santiago Canizares believes Real Madrid should consider selling Vinicius Junior as part of their squad rebuilding plan.

Vinicius has not maintained consistent form.

Speaking on Movistar , Canizares stated that Vinicius has not maintained the form commensurate with his status and salary over the past two years. Furthermore, the player has been involved in numerous off-field controversies, affecting Real Madrid's image.

"He hasn't delivered the value I expected. If there's a reasonable offer, I'll sell him," the former Spanish goalkeeper emphasized.

Besides form, Canizares also questioned Vinicius's suitability for the tactical system centered around Kylian Mbappe. According to him, the overlap in playing styles could make it difficult for Real Madrid to optimize their attacking potential.

However, he admitted that selling a player of Vinicius's caliber is not simple. "It's easy to say 'sell,' but you need a buyer. Like Rodrygo, Real once valued him at 70-80 million euros, but there were no suitable offers. In that case, keeping him and waiting for him to regain his form is a more sensible option," Canizares analyzed.

Besides discussing the personnel on the field, Canizares also addressed the coaching staff. He suggested that Alvaro Arbeloa has little chance of continuing to lead the team due to a lack of outstanding achievements and a sufficiently solid foundation.

Canizares's harsh remarks highlight the immense pressure for reform mounting on Real Madrid after a disappointing trophyless season.

Concluding their Champions League quarter-final matches, Real Madrid lost to Bayern Munich with an aggregate score of 4-6. In the first leg, they suffered a 1-2 defeat at their home stadium, Santiago Bernabeu. For Real Madrid, a trophyless season seems imminent.

The stunning strike that shook Real Madrid: In the early hours of April 16th, Michael Olise scored a spectacular solo goal to seal a 4-3 victory for Bayern Munich against Real Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals.
