Organic green vegetables grown in Phu Long

Việt NamViệt Nam30/11/2023

Organic vegetables must meet five criteria: "no" and "no". Over the years, the two VietGAP vegetable farming groups in Phu Cuong and Phu Truong communes, Phu Long town, Ham Thuan Bac district, have successfully implemented four of these criteria:

Firstly, the harvested vegetables must be free of harmful pesticides; secondly, free of herbicides; thirdly, free of growth stimulants; and fourthly, free of genetically modified organisms. However, the fifth criterion—not using chemical fertilizers—has not been met. During the vegetable production process, farmers only use organic microbial fertilizers and well-rotted manure in soil preparation; while during the care and fertilization stages, they still use chemical fertilizers in a balanced manner. To overcome this limitation, since the beginning of 2023, farmers have effectively applied the organic product "K10 Hydrolyzed Marine Fish Extract," completely replacing chemical fertilizers in cultivation, moving towards organic vegetable production.

Phu Long town in Ham Thuan Bac district is blessed with natural advantages, boasting over 50 hectares of sandy soil at the foot of sand dunes, along with clean water and fresh air, ideal for vegetable production. Capitalizing on this potential, for over 20 years, 315 households in Phu Truong, Phu Cuong, and Phu Xuan neighborhoods of the town have invested in year-round vegetable cultivation, including various types such as mint, curly lettuce, mustard greens, onions, coriander, and basil, supplying wholesale markets both locally and internationally. With the support of the local authorities and coordination with the provincial and district agricultural extension services, training has been organized to improve farmers' knowledge and techniques in producing clean, safe vegetables. Mr. Nguyen Gia Phong, from Phu Cuong neighborhood, Phu Long town, Ham Thuan Bac district, stated: "My family has over 2 sao (2,000 m2) of land dedicated to year-round vegetable cultivation." Over the years, the family has consistently adhered to clean vegetable farming practices, using organic microbial fertilizers or well-rotted manure and only using pesticides from the permitted list. However, during the cultivation and fertilization process, he still had to use chemical fertilizers in a balanced manner. But since the beginning of 2023, his family and members of the Viet Gap vegetable farming group have switched to using the organic product "K10 Hydrolyzed Marine Fish Extract" for fertilizing vegetables, which has yielded initial positive results. The vegetables are healthier, produce higher yields, have a vibrant green color, are more appealing to consumers, and production costs have decreased.

Mr. Tran Xuan Hoac, an agricultural engineer residing in Phan Thiet city, stated: The organic product "K10 Hydrolyzed Fish Extract" is processed from various types of fish, then hydrolyzed to be rich in amino acids and nutrients, meeting the growth and development needs of plants. Experiments using this organic product in 2-3 vegetable crops in Phu Truong and Phu Cuong neighborhoods, Phu Long town, Ham Thuan Bac district showed that the vegetables grew well, had beautiful colors, shortened the harvesting time, increased yield by about 30%, and had fewer pests and diseases. Even more encouraging, post-harvest vegetable samples showed no residual nitrate levels.

The organic product "K10 Hydrolyzed Sea Fish Extract" is produced by Mr. Ho Trinh of Viet Nhat BIO Technology Co., Ltd. in Phan Thiet city. Thanks to the successful production of this unique organic product, Mr. Ho Trinh was honored by the Vietnam Farmers' Association as "Scientist for Farmers" in 2020; by the Vietnam Association of Farms and Agricultural Enterprises as "Having achieved outstanding results in the development of Vietnamese agriculture, farmers, and rural areas"; and was awarded the title "Outstanding Intellectual in Science and Technology of Binh Thuan Province" by the Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Thuan province - added Mr. Tran Xuan Hoac, an agricultural engineer residing in Phan Thiet city.

Organic vegetable production has been a goal for vegetable farmers in Phu Long town, Ham Thuan Bac district, in recent years. Now, with the availability of the organic product "K10 Hydrolyzed Marine Fish Extract," which has a clear origin and guaranteed quality, it provides an important basis for farmers to trust and use it effectively in organic vegetable production, thereby increasing their income.
