Real Madrid seemed poised for an easy victory, leading Villarreal 4-1 after the first half, but the outstanding performance of striker Alexander Sorloth helped the "Yellow Submarine" secure a 4-4 draw in the penultimate round of La Liga.

Alexander Sorloth scored a poker (four goals) against Real Madrid in the 39th, 48th, 52nd, and 56th minutes. On the other side, the goals that gave Real Madrid the advantage were scored by Arda Guler (14', 45+2'), Joselu (30'), and Lucas Vazquez (40').

Alexander Sorloth's four goals against Real Madrid propelled him to the top of the La Liga top scorer list this season with 23 goals. Meanwhile, Villarreal remains in eighth place with 52 points.

Real Madrid have already secured the La Liga title and currently have 94 points. Coach Carlo Ancelotti's team will face Betis in the final matchday on May 26th before playing the Champions League final against Dortmund on June 2nd.

In other matches played simultaneously in the penultimate round of La Liga, Barca beat Vallecano 3-0 to officially secure second place, Girona defeated Valencia 3-1, and Atletico Madrid suffered a surprising heavy 1-4 defeat against Osasuna. Mallorca officially secured their survival in the league, while Cadiz followed Granada and Almeria in being relegated.

In the final match of the 2023/2024 Ligue 1 season, PSG secured a 2-0 victory against Metz thanks to goals from Carlos Soler and Lee Kang In. The league champions accumulated a total of 76 points after 34 matches.

Monaco and Brest, along with PSG, will be the Ligue 1 representatives to qualify directly for the Champions League group stage next season, while Lille will play in the qualifying rounds. Meanwhile, Lorient and Clermont Foot will be relegated, and Metz will play in the play-offs to secure their survival in the league.
