Rodrygo has just undergone successful knee surgery and has officially begun his long-term recovery process. According to information from Real Madrid, the Brazilian striker was operated on the morning of March 10th by Dr. Manuel Leyes, a renowned expert in the field of sports injuries.
The surgery aims to treat a torn anterior cruciate ligament and lateral meniscus in his right knee. This is an injury Rodrygo sustained a week ago during the match against Getafe.
Before the surgery, the medical team waited for the swelling in Rodrygo's knee to subside to ensure optimal conditions. After a final check, Dr. Leyes decided to proceed with the operation on the morning of March 10th. The surgery was confirmed to have gone smoothly.
The injury occurred in the 66th minute of the match against Getafe. In a challenge with Adrian Liso, Rodrygo received the ball on the left wing and placed his supporting foot to accelerate. However, his foot got stuck and the pain came on immediately.
Rodrygo immediately lifted his leg and limped. He fell to the ground in considerable pain. After a few seconds, the Brazilian striker got up and continued playing for over 30 minutes.
It is unclear whether Rodrygo completely tore his ligament at that moment or if the injury worsened as he tried to continue playing. Upon returning to the dressing room, the Real Madrid forward said he felt pain in his knee.
By the following morning, the situation had worsened. Following medical examinations, the medical team confirmed that the Brazilian striker had torn his anterior cruciate ligament and lateral meniscus in his right knee.
This is one of the most serious injuries a football player can sustain. Typically, the recovery process can take almost a year.
Immediately after receiving his diagnosis, Rodrygo shared a message on social media. “Life has probably been a little tough on me lately. Even though this is a difficult time, I promise I won’t stop. This is just a farewell message,” he wrote.
Over the past eight days, Rodrygo received treatment and care to ensure his knee was in the best possible condition before surgery. After the operation was completed, the 25-year-old player regained consciousness and began his recovery.
Initial estimates suggest Rodrygo may need around a year to reach peak fitness. However, he could return to training at the Valdebebas training center after about 10 months, depending on his recovery progress.
