
The teams are preparing for the plum-picking competition.
From early morning, in the plum orchards of the commune, the competing teams began their plum-picking contest in an enthusiastic atmosphere. The teams quickly harvested the ripe, juicy plums, carefully selecting them according to criteria of beauty, uniformity, and quality. The lively cheers and the sight of orchards laden with fruit created a vibrant atmosphere for the festival.
Currently, Long Phieng commune has 1,035 hectares of plum orchards, of which 867 hectares are ready for harvest. The projected yield for 2026 is approximately 9,620 tons. As of May 8th, the commune has harvested about 3,500 tons of fruit, reaching 36.4% of the plan, with an estimated product value of approximately 105 billion VND. This includes about 1,000 tons of off-season plums at an average price of 50,000 VND/kg; 1,500 tons of early-season plums at around 30,000 VND/kg; and about 1,000 tons of main-season plums at prices ranging from 5,000 to 10,000 VND/kg. Local plums are currently sold at many wholesale markets and supermarket chains in Hanoi , Thanh Hoa, Quang Ninh, Nghe An, and Ho Chi Minh City.

The plum-picking competition is not only an opportunity to introduce and promote Long Phieng plums and honor outstanding farmers, but also creates a chance for plum growers to exchange experiences in cultivation, improve productivity and product quality. It is also an opportunity for the locality to connect and expand cooperation with businesses and cooperatives to find stable markets for Long Phieng plums.

Ms. Nguyen Ha Thu, from the Pha Cung village team, Yen Thi commune, Long Phieng district, shared: “We are very honored to participate in the plum picking competition. We hope that through this event, more tourists will learn about Long Phieng plums, contributing to promoting the image of our homeland and helping farmers increase their income, gradually eradicating poverty.”

Along with the plum-picking competition, the festival also featured a judging of the agricultural product display booths of the participating teams. Many booths were elaborately designed, showcasing a diverse range of local specialties such as late-season plums, clean agricultural products, OCOP products, and ethnic cuisine , creating an attractive highlight for visitors.

Through this festival, Long Phieng commune continues to affirm its potential for agricultural development linked with experiential tourism, gradually building the brand of late-season plums into a distinctive product, contributing to sustainable local economic development.
