Cristiano Ronaldo has officially announced he owns a 25% stake in UD Almeria. The team currently plays in the Segunda Division and sits in third place, just one and two points behind the leaders, Racing Santander and CD Castellon, respectively. Their chances of promotion to La Liga remain wide open.
The financial details of the deal were not disclosed. The investment was made through CR7 Sports Investments, a newly formed subsidiary of CR7 SA, the group Ronaldo uses to manage his sports business operations.
In a statement released on February 26, Ronaldo said: “I have always wanted to contribute to football in a way that goes beyond the pitch. Almeria is a club with a solid foundation and clear potential for growth. I am excited to be working alongside the management in the next phase of the team.”
CR7 Sports Investments is described as a unit specializing in evaluating and implementing strategic opportunities in professional sports. The investment in Almeria shows Ronaldo continuing to expand his footprint in the investment field, alongside his playing career.
Almeria president Mohamed Al Khereiji confirmed the deal and expressed his satisfaction. “We are delighted that Cristiano has chosen to invest in the club. He understands the Spanish leagues well and sees the potential we are building, from the first team to the academy,” he said.
In recent days, rumors have surfaced in Almeria that Ronaldo might end his career with the club, even after the age of 40. However, the reality is that what is being prepared is a share purchase, not a playing contract.
This marks Ronaldo's first major investment in a Spanish club. After years spent in La Liga with Real Madrid, his return takes on a completely different meaning: from player to investor.
