Remove connection “bottlenecks”

In mid-August 2025, Component 1A Project, Tan Van - Nhon Trach section with the important item of Nhon Trach bridge connecting Nhon Trach urban area with Ho Chi Minh City was officially inaugurated and put into operation. The inauguration and putting into operation of the project not only adds a way from Dong Nai to Ho Chi Minh City but also contributes significantly to reducing traffic pressure for the inner city area, especially Cat Lai ferry and Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway. Particularly for Nhon Trach urban area, putting into operation Component 1A Project not only shortens the distance between this urban area and Ho Chi Minh City but also opens up great opportunities for socio- economic development.

Provincial Party Committee member and Director of the Department of Finance, Truong Thi Huong Binh, said: The inauguration and operation of Component 1A Project, Tan Van - Nhon Trach section, will create favorable conditions for transporting goods and enhancing trade exchange between Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City.

Component 1A Project is a section of Ring Road 3 - Ho Chi Minh City. According to the plan, the entire route will be technically open to traffic in December 2025; completed and put into synchronous operation in 2026. At that time, this will be one of the most important traffic axes connecting Nhon Trach urban area with Ho Chi Minh City urban area.

Along with the Ring Road 3 Project - Ho Chi Minh City, the Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway, another traffic axis connecting Nhon Trach urban area with Ho Chi Minh City, will also complete construction in 2026. Along with that, the Phuoc An Bridge Project is also planned to complete construction in 2027.

Most recently, the Cat Lai Bridge Construction Investment Project has been approved by Dong Nai province for the proposed investor. According to Provincial Party Committee member and Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Ha, Dong Nai province aims to start construction of Cat Lai Bridge in 2026.

Cat Lai Bridge is one of the road bridge projects connecting Dong Nai with Ho Chi Minh City that has been awaited by the people of the two localities for a long time. Especially for Dong Nai, this is a bridge that is expected to create a big push for the development of Nhon Trach urban area.

Nhon Trach urban area is located in the center of the Southern key economic zone, playing an extremely important role in the socio-economic development of Dong Nai. Geographically, Nhon Trach urban area is close to the largest urban area in the country, Ho Chi Minh City. However, Nhon Trach and Ho Chi Minh City are separated by rivers: Dong Nai, Long Tau, Dong Tranh, Thi Vai. The separation by rivers and the lack of synchronous investment in the transport infrastructure connecting the two urban areas is one of the major "bottlenecks" that has hindered the development of Nhon Trach urban area for a long time. Therefore, when this "bottleneck" is removed, the opportunity for Nhon Trach urban area to break through and develop is very open.

Ho Chi Minh City is also considering promoting the Phu My 2 Bridge Construction Investment Project across the Dong Nai River. Phu My 2 Bridge has its starting point on Nguyen Huu Tho Street (Ho Chi Minh City), and its end point connects the inter-port road in Nhon Trach urban area (Dong Nai province).

Speed up the completion of urban master plan adjustments

In April 2024, the Prime Minister issued a decision approving the task of adjusting the overall master plan of Nhon Trach new urban area until 2045. The implementation of the overall adjustment of the master plan of Nhon Trach new urban area aims to respond to the new development situation as well as overcome the limitations and shortcomings in the current planning project.

According to the approved master plan adjustment task, Nhon Trach urban area is oriented to become an industrial urban area, port services, logistics, riverside tourism services, playing the role of one of the key urban areas of the Southern dynamic region and the central sub-region of the Southeast region. At the same time, it is the nucleus for socio-economic development in the central urban area of Dong Nai province.

Along with that, Nhon Trach urban area will be one of the economic, cultural, scientific - technical, and innovation centers of Dong Nai province; supporting functions of housing, education - training, healthcare, and commerce to reduce the pressure of population growth on urban areas in the central sub-region of the Southeast region.

Deputy Director of the Department of Construction Do Thanh Phuong said: The project to adjust the overall planning of Nhon Trach urban area has been completed by Dong Nai province after receiving and explaining the opinions of the Ministry of Construction and related ministries and branches. An advantage for the process of making this project is that after reorganizing the commune-level administrative units in the province, Nhon Trach urban area has no change in boundary compared to the planning boundary of the old Nhon Trach district.

On the side of the People's Committee of Dong Nai province, in order to create a basis for implementing zoning planning projects, thereby attracting investment projects, Comrade Vo Tan Duc, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the Department of Construction and relevant agencies to speed up the preparation, submission for appraisal and approval of the overall adjustment project of Nhon Trach urban master plan. The goal is that this project must be approved in December 2025.
