In the days leading up to the Lunar New Year of the Horse in 2026, the Dai Phat rose garden of Mr. Nguyen Trong Dai's family shines brightly in the coastal countryside of Tien Hai. Each ancient rose bush stretches towards the spring sunshine, laden with fruit, gradually ripening from warm orange-yellow to vibrant red, heralding a prosperous and abundant Tet season. Currently, Mr. Dai's family cultivates nearly 7,000 square meters of rose bushes, with hundreds of large and small ancient rose bushes. The garden becomes more lively as plant enthusiasts come to visit and choose their roses, all marveling at the unique beauty of the rose bushes bearing fruit in the spring.
Mr. To Dinh Dam, a visiting customer, said: "I am particularly impressed with such a beautiful and abundant garden of ancient roses. Enjoying ancient roses during Tet (Lunar New Year) brings a unique joy because of the unusual plants and the extended viewing period. The branches laden with fruit symbolize abundance and prosperity, while the red-orange color of the persimmons in the early days of the year is considered a symbol of good fortune, success, and wealth."

The vibrant rose garden they have today is the result of nearly eight years of persistent entrepreneurial effort by Mr. and Mrs. Nguyen Trong Dai. Driven by their passion for agriculture, they constantly sought out plant varieties that were both economically valuable and suitable for the coastal soil conditions. Initially, they researched the lantern rose variety. However, after a recommendation from an acquaintance and careful consideration, Mr. Dai decided to switch to the Hai Hau (Ninh Binh) fruit rose variety. At the time, this was considered a bold decision because Tien Hai had no prior experience growing ancient roses.
In 2018, with 10 persimmon saplings priced at 650,000 VND each, Mr. and Mrs. Dai boldly brought them back to their hometown to experiment with planting them. Through proactive research using books, newspapers, the internet, and learning from traditional gardeners, by 2020, their first persimmon trees were bearing high-quality, beautiful fruit. Mr. Dai said: "The Hai Hau persimmon variety is highly valued for its vigorous growth, ease of shaping, and stable fruit production. The persimmons are round, seedless, and have thin skin; when ripe, they have a rich, sweet taste, making them suitable for both fresh consumption and as ornamental plants for Tet (Lunar New Year). Importantly, this variety adapts well to various soil conditions."

Having mastered cultivation techniques, Mr. Dai continued his "conquest" of growing persimmons in pots, a path that requires advanced techniques but yields outstanding economic value. Currently, each potted persimmon tree sells for 3-5 million VND at his garden. Trees with unique shapes and older ages can fetch prices ranging from 20-50 million VND per pot. According to Mr. Dai, potted persimmons not only need to be healthy and bear beautiful fruit, but also have a harmonious and balanced shape that suits the tastes of bonsai enthusiasts during the spring season. From selecting the variety, shaping the canopy, regulating nutrients, to managing flowering and fruiting, everything requires meticulous attention to detail and experience accumulated over each season.

Opening the way for local economic development.
To maintain the sustainable development of the persimmon orchard, Mr. Dai's family also cultivates persimmon seedlings. It is expected that by March of this year (lunar calendar), the orchard will supply approximately 5,000 seedlings. Of these, about 3,000 are trees one year old or older, contributing to a stable supply and spreading the persimmon cultivation model to the local farming community.
Ms. Tran Thi Kim Cuc, Mr. Dai's wife, shared: "When we decided to plant the Hai Hau ancient rose, my husband and I had almost no prior knowledge. But with our unity, perseverance, and accumulated experience through each season, the abundant and vibrant rose harvests every spring have given us the confidence to pursue this model. We plan to expand the rose planting area by another 2,000 m² in the near future."

Commenting on the model, Ms. To Thi Nhung, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and President of the Women's Union of Tien Hai commune, affirmed: This is the first model in the area to introduce high-value persimmon varieties into cultivation and bring about clear economic benefits. Not only has it helped Mr. Dai's family become legitimately wealthy, but the model has also created motivation for many households to boldly innovate their production thinking, switching to high-value crops that are suitable for the market.
Keeping pace with new trends, Mr. Dai has recently taken the initiative to promote his garden's brand, associated with the Hai Hau ancient rose variety, on social media platforms. Through sharing images and videos of the process of caring for and shaping the plants, as well as showcasing beautiful rose pots for the Lunar New Year season, his family's rose garden is gradually reaching customers inside and outside the province, expanding its market, increasing product value, and demonstrating the innovative thinking of farmers in the digital transformation era.
