The Lo Lo ethnic group is one of the smallest minority groups in Vietnam (under 10,000 people). In Bao Lam district, Cao Bang province, the Lo Lo people live in four hamlets: Ca Meng, Ca Pen A, Ca Pen B, and Ca Dong in Duc Hanh commune.
Join author Le Tan Thanh in experiencing the festivals of the Lo Lo ethnic group through the photo album "Colors of the Lo Lo Festival". This album was submitted by the author to the "Happy Vietnam" photo and video contest, organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications . The photos will showcase the beauty of the vibrant costumes worn by the people during their annual traditional festival.
As an ethnic group with a developed culture, possessing ancient bronze drums and a long-standing hieroglyphic writing system, the Lo Lo people are very proud of their rich culture, expressed through their dances, folk songs, and fairy tales. The bronze drum is a cultural treasure of the Lo Lo people, a sacred object connecting the divine and the human. Therefore, the drum is only played on particularly important occasions for the villagers: funerals, ceremonies honoring the earth god, ceremonies honoring heaven and earth, and other community cultural rituals.
Activities for tourists to experience include spinning cotton, weaving, basketry, folk games such as carrying baskets and throwing corn, pounding rice, stick pushing, tug-of-war, etc.
Despite facing economic difficulties, the Lo Lo people still preserve and pass on the customs, traditions, and festivals of their ancestors. The activities of the festival contribute to educating people about patriotic traditions, strengthening national unity, promoting socio-economic development, and meeting the people's needs for creativity and enjoyment of spiritual culture.
