Right from primary school, today's generations of students have begun to get acquainted with many historical figures, including brave young brothers and sisters such as Kim Dong, Vo Thi Sau, Vu A Dinh, Duong Van Noi... Stories about young martyrs leave many deep impressions. Wishing to bring young readers a new form of approach, Kim Dong Publishing House has launched picture books about young heroes. Right from their launch in 2019, the first two works of this picture book series, "Vo Thi Sau" and "Ly Tu Trong", have attracted readers. Perhaps because this is the first time the image of young heroes has been recreated in a large-size color illustrated picture book combined with vivid narration.
After the success of these two works, a series of picture books about young heroes were introduced to readers such as "Be Van Dan", "Kim Dong", "Phan Dinh Giot", "To Vinh Dien", "Nguyen Van Troi", "Tran Van On", "Mac Thi Buoi", "Ly Tu Trong"... Readers of young age were very enthusiastic and excited to read each page of the book to "meet" a Vu A Dinh who was just over ten years old but already knew how to help his father hunt animals, help his mother work in the fields, follow his older brothers to guard, and act as a liaison for the guerrillas in the village; to know a Be Van Dan who lost his mother since childhood, had to work for a landlord from a young age and bravely used his body as a gun mount for his teammates to shoot the enemy in a fierce battle; to be silent before the image of the brave sister Sau, who calmly sang loudly in front of the enemy's guns; or full of pride and admiration when "hearing" the immortal words of Ly Tu Trong before the enemy: "I am not yet an adult, but I am wise enough to understand that the path of youth is only the revolutionary path, there can be no other path. I believe that if you think carefully, you will also see the need to liberate the nation, liberate the working people like me".
The new, attractive appearance, along with the concise and concise narrative accompanied by realistic illustrations from various angles, have made the book series attractive. In recent years, the book series has been reprinted many times, along with the continued release of new works such as "The Story of the First Team Leader", "The Story of Ten Girls at Dong Loc Crossroads", "The Story of the First Five Team Members" and especially the touching poem "The Na Ma Boy" about the heroic fighting and sacrifice of Kim Dong - the first team leader of the Children's Rescue Association (later changed to the Children's Rescue Team, the predecessor of today's Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneers).
In addition to picture books, storybooks about the lives and examples of young patriots who dare to live, fight, and sacrifice for noble ideals have been written by authors on every page. Such as writer To Hoai with his works "Kim Dong", "Vu A Dinh", "Tuoi Tre Hoang Van Thu", Doan Gioi with the story "Tran Van On", Xuan Sach with the story "Pham Ngoc Da", Xuan Dai with "Tuoi Nho Hoang Van Thu", Van Tung with "Ly Tu Trong: Song Mai Ten Anh", Nghiem Da Van with the memoir "Nguyen Duc Canh", Le Quang Vinh with "Chi Sau o Con Dao", Tran Dinh Van (Thai Duy) with "Song Nhu Anh", Pham Hong Cu with "General Vo Nguyen Giap in his youth", Le Van with "Duong Van Noi"...
The stories of heroic lives have gone down in history as a legend, told with emotion and attraction, becoming famous literary works that have been reprinted many times, on the list of books that Vietnamese youth cannot help but read once in their lives to understand more about the time when their ancestors lived and fought to gain peace , independence and happiness for today's generation. Among them, the book "Living like you" was once a publishing phenomenon. The work was originally titled "The last meetings", then renamed "Living like you", when published in 1965 it reached a record number of 302 thousand copies - a number that is still a dream for many works.
In particular, “Living like him” has had a profound influence on many generations of students, young people, patriots... during the resistance war against the US to save the country. The book even created a wave of living, studying, producing and fighting following the example of Anh Troi among Vietnamese youth at that time. The book “Living like him” has therefore been evaluated as a very valuable collection of documents and a great literary work. Through the pure and loving soul of the young wife, through the honest and delicate pen of the writer, we see a very vivid image of Hero Nguyen Van Troi and of a heroic collective, a heroic nation.
Each story of a hero's life, including young heroes, always has great inspirational significance. Therefore, many publishing units are always interested in developing and "renewing" this book segment. For example, the online book platform Waka has cooperated with the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Vietnam Youth Union to build the Youth Bookshelf (also known as the Patriotic Bookshelf). This application once launched a writing contest with the theme "Heroic examples inspire young people" to create a healthy and useful playground for young people, inspiring the national spirit and strong will of the young generation of Vietnam through young heroic examples with the message: "Let's constantly strive to compete in studying and cultivating moral qualities so as not to let down the loss and sacrifice of young heroes who contributed to the independence and freedom of our country".
