In an effort to popularize artificial intelligence (AI), Samsung has confirmed it will bring exclusive features of the Galaxy S26 flagship series to older models through the One UI 8.5 update.
This move reaffirms the South Korean giant's commitment to expanding the Galaxy AI ecosystem to more than 100 million users worldwide.

New AI "weapons" on One UI 8.5
The latest internal update to One UI 8.5 reveals that devices like the Galaxy S24 and S25 will soon have the creative toolset and intelligent support previously reserved for the flagship Galaxy S26 . Key features include:
Advanced Audio Eraser : This technology can separate and optimize speech, background music, or noise while watching videos . Users can directly filter out background noise to clearly hear dialogue on apps like Netflix or YouTube with just a swipe of the control panel.
Creative Studio : A powerful AI-generated photo editor. This tool allows you to transform rough sketches into digital artwork or completely change the style of an existing photograph.
Call Screening : AI assistants will answer calls from unknown numbers on behalf of the user. The conversation content is transcribed into text in real time, helping the user decide whether or not to answer.
Photo Assist : Users can edit outfits, add or remove objects in photos using simple text commands. A key highlight of One UI 8.5 is the revamped Bixby.
Thanks to its collaboration with Perplexity AI, Bixby can now handle complex requests and gain a deep understanding of device settings. Instead of fumbling through menus, users simply say "I have eye strain," and Bixby will automatically activate Eye Protection mode. Actions such as battery diagnostics or turning on a hotspot are also performed instantly via voice commands.

List of devices and update roadmap
Based on leaked information, the stable One UI 8.5 update is expected to be released internationally around May 4th. The list of supported devices includes:
S series : Galaxy S25 (including S25 FE), Galaxy S24 series.
Fold/Flip series : Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Z Flip 6.
The 2023 models include: Galaxy S23 Series, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, and Galaxy S23 FE.
Mid-range model : Galaxy A36 5G (currently in beta testing).
Samsung is not only bringing AI features but also focusing on fixing lingering bugs such as Bluetooth issues and the black screen error during incoming calls.
Additionally, the updated Quick Share feature allows for cross-platform file sharing with Apple's AirDrop, providing maximum convenience for users.
Samsung's decision not to reserve AI features as an "exclusive" feature for its latest models is a smart strategy. This not only retains users within the Galaxy ecosystem but also makes older devices more powerful and valuable in the AI era.
