Phan Thiet Civil Airport has found an investor.

According to the decision signed by the Vice Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, Nguyen Hong Hai, the winning bidder is Phan Thiet Sun Airport Co., Ltd. (Phu Thuy Ward, Lam Dong Province).

The project, officially named Phan Thiet Airport – Civil Aviation Category (also known as the Phan Thiet Civil Airport project), received investment approval under Decision No. 2547/QD-UBND dated December 13, 2025, of the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee. The selection of the investor was carried out in accordance with the 2023 Bidding Law and related decrees and circulars.

The People's Committee of Lam Dong province has assigned the Director of the Department of Construction to organize negotiations, finalize, and sign contracts with investors based on the approved content, in accordance with the delegated authority. Simultaneously, the Director of the Department of Finance is fully responsible before the law and the People's Committee of the province for the content of the appraisal and submission for approval of the investor selection results.

The specific objective of the project is to serve civil aviation aircraft of category 4E, with a designed capacity of 2 million passengers per year (by 2030). The airport will operate domestic routes and irregular international flights when needed. The project will utilize nearly 75 hectares of land. The total estimated investment is approximately VND 3,797.9 billion, excluding compensation, support, and resettlement costs. The project's operating period is 50 years, starting from the date the investor is approved in accordance with the law.

The approval of the investor selection results is a crucial step in implementing the civil aviation component of Phan Thiet Airport, contributing to the completion of Lam Dong province's strategic transportation infrastructure, strengthening regional connectivity, promoting tourism and service development, and attracting investment in the future.

The Phan Thiet Airport project (Mui Ne ward, Lam Dong province), which commenced in 2015, comprises two components: military (completed) and civilian. The civilian component involves upgrading the airport from a 4C to a 4E category, with a 3,050m runway and a designed capacity of 2 million passengers per year by 2030. However, the project has experienced numerous delays due to changes in investors, investment models, and bureaucratic hurdles.
