Construction is underway day and night.

We visited Package 5.10, the construction and equipment installation of the Long Thanh Airport passenger terminal, part of Component Project 3. The massive, modern "heart" of the airport, designed in the shape of a lotus flower, was right before our eyes. The project includes a ground floor and three upper floors, with a total floor area of over 376,000 m², accommodating 40 aircraft parking positions. Construction began in July 2023, and to date, the progress is basically on schedule.

A bustling, urgent atmosphere pervades the construction site, which is in its crucial stage, counting down the days. Inside the terminal, Khoang Van Khang and his team of workers from Construction Corporation No. 1 are meticulously installing paving stones. “Contributing our small efforts to the Long Thanh Airport Project is a great honor. We always strive our best in every detail to ensure fast construction, quality, and workplace safety. Although we work overtime, day and night, everyone is excited because it increases their income and, most importantly, the project of the century is nearing completion,” Khang shared.

Three airlines, Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet, and Bamboo Airways, are accelerating preparations for their first official flight on December 19th at Long Thanh International Airport.

Worker Truong Ba Loc from the Vinaconex contractor, who has been working at the passenger terminal construction site for over half a year, said: "We all understand that this is the most crucial time. Although construction is urgent, quality and safety must be prioritized. The workers are very careful and absolutely do not do shoddy work."

According to engineer Nguyen Chi Linh, who is directly in charge of safety management for the Vinaconex contractor constructing the Long Thanh airport passenger terminal: To date, the construction site has completed the steel structure, roof, and glass walls. Working at height with heavy equipment is entering its final stage, so the unit is focusing on thorough inspection to ensure absolute safety. The interior of the passenger terminal is currently undergoing ceiling and floor tiling, therefore fire prevention and control remains a top priority...

The Long Thanh airport project is being built on an area of over 5,000 hectares in Long Thanh commune, Dong Nai province. The total estimated investment for the three phases is over 16 billion USD, of which phase 1 is over 5.4 billion USD.

To prepare for the first test flight landing on runway 1, testing of the aviation lighting and signage systems is being conducted regularly. The final connections for the lighting system on the aircraft parking area have been completed. Tran Quang Tam, a technical officer seconded from Tan Son Nhat International Airport to assist with the installation of the lighting system, shared: “Our task is to connect the electrical systems for the runway, taxiway, and apron lighting to ensure conditions are met for the first test flight. Everyone is working urgently, with the spirit of completing the job, not just finishing the shift.”

The Long Thanh airport project is being built on an area of over 5,000 hectares in Long Thanh commune, Dong Nai province. The estimated total investment for the three phases is over 16 billion USD, of which phase 1 is over 5.4 billion USD. Specifically, Component 3 of the Long Thanh airport project, including essential facilities such as two runways, a passenger terminal, and supporting infrastructure with a capacity of 25 million passengers per year and 1.2 million tons of cargo per year, has a total investment of over 99 trillion VND, funded by the Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV).

According to ACV's leadership, the consortium of contractors has mobilized hundreds of construction teams, with nearly 15,000 experts, engineers, workers, and laborers, and more than 3,000 pieces of construction equipment to accelerate progress with the goal of putting the project into commercial operation in the first half of 2026. In 2025, the weather was unfavorable, with the rainy season arriving early and lasting continuously, affecting construction, especially underground works such as drainage systems and road foundations. ACV directed the consortiums of contractors to proactively adjust their plans and construction methods accordingly, adhering closely to the set critical path.

To date, the passenger terminal's aircraft parking area has been completed, and runway 1 and the taxiway system are ready to serve the first official flight on December 19th. The Ministry of Construction requests ACV to continue directing contractors to focus on organizing and implementing the construction of project items to ensure progress; and to quickly complete the main access road connecting the T1 runway to the passenger terminal's parking area for convenient and safe access.

"Giving wings" to the aspiration for national strength.

Over 4.5 million people in Dong Nai province , especially those living in Long Thanh commune, are eagerly awaiting the moment Long Thanh airport welcomes its first flight, hoping that its commercial operation will open up many breakthrough opportunities for this region. Mr. Phan Van Lam, 57 years old, born and raised in An Lam hamlet, Long Thanh commune, enthusiastically stated: "The infrastructure system is heavily invested in at this stage, especially with the advantage of Long Thanh airport as a foundation for development. All land resources here are linked to the airport's development space. I believe that when the airport becomes operational, business, trade, and logistics will develop, helping people to prosper."

Workers are busily constructing the interior of the Long Thanh airport passenger terminal.

According to Le Hoang Son, Chairman of the People's Committee of Long Thanh Commune, with the Long Thanh airport entering commercial operation and the synchronized investment in transportation and social infrastructure, the locality expects to develop into a new growth pole of Dong Nai province, aiming to become an airport city and, in the long term, a modern international gateway to Asia. The commune is actively shifting its economic structure from traditional agriculture and industry to aviation services, logistics, trade, and high-tech industries. "Creating tens of thousands of new jobs at the airport and opening up opportunities for service and trade development will help people improve their income right in their hometown," Mr. Son said.

In strict compliance with the conclusions of General Secretary To Lam at the working session on the Long Thanh Airport Project on December 11th, Dong Nai province has organized the dissemination and implementation of all strategic contents to maximize the socio-economic impact of the airport. Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Vo Tan Duc requested each unit and sector to implement five key tasks: elevating the mindset of airport development as a new strategic driving force for the region and the nation; perfecting and effectively implementing specific mechanisms and policies for provincial development; reviewing and adjusting the planning and spatial development orientation, and economic corridor associated with Long Thanh Airport and Cai Mep seaport; accelerating the development of multimodal connectivity infrastructure; and forming a modern and integrated aviation, logistics, and airport city ecosystem.
