Enhancing the Value of Local Specialties: Using traditional processing methods, the Thao Hao Beef Production and Business Cooperative in Tuong Duong district has brought consumers beef products with the rich flavor of the Thai ethnic people in the highlands of Nghe An province. With the desire to enhance the value of local specialties, Ms. Tran Thi Thao, Director of the Thao Hao Beef Production and Business Cooperative, began selecting ingredients, maintaining traditional handcrafted production methods and spices, resulting in beef with a sweet and fragrant taste in every bite. This helps the product retain its unique characteristics while ensuring food safety and hygiene. In addition, to make the product accessible to a wider range of consumers, Ms. Thao has also invested in attractive packaging and labels with complete information. “To fulfill orders for the Lunar New Year, for nearly a month now, the cooperative has had to import 3 tons of fresh meat to produce nearly 100 kg of dried beef, which is then packaged and vacuum-sealed for customers to use and give as gifts. Besides producing high-quality dried beef, the Thao Hao Dried Beef Cooperative also researches and experiments to diversify its products such as: Tuong Duong dried beef, Tuong Duong sausage, dried pork, smoked pork belly… To date, the cooperative has been recognized with 4 OCOP 3-star products,” Ms. Thao said. To ensure an abundant and stable supply of raw materials, the cooperative is also strengthening its links to expand its raw material sourcing area with Ky Son and Que Phong districts, creating more outlets for livestock farmers in the province. Currently, the Tuong Duong dried beef product of the Thao Hao Dried Beef Production and Business Cooperative is available nationwide and on the shelves of Go Supermarket and Lotte Mart Vinh Supermarket. The mountainous region of Nghe An boasts a wealth of delicious and unique agricultural products such as yellow cattle, black pigs, black goats, bamboo shoots, wild banana blossoms, upland sticky rice, etc. Furthermore, through the skillful hands of the local people, these ingredients are transformed into many outstanding traditional dishes such as bamboo-cooked rice, grilled chicken, grilled fish, and rice wine – all fragrant, high-quality, and appealing to the tastes of many consumers today. In addition, veal sausage factories in the districts of Nam Dan, Thanh Chuong, Do Luong, Yen Thanh, etc., are also ramping up production to supply supermarkets, distributors, and customers inside and outside the province during Tet (Lunar New Year). Nghe An veal sausage currently has many large-scale production facilities, with outputs of tens of tons per year; many of these products have been recognized with 3-star and 4-star OCOP (One Commune One Product) certifications. OCOP veal sausage is available in supermarkets and modern retail chains nationwide, is popular with consumers, and is a frequently chosen food item during Tet. Ms. Nguyen Thi Chau, owner of Chau Huong Pork Sausage Production Facility in Nam Nghia commune, Nam Dan district, said that in preparation for Tet (Lunar New Year), her facility consumes 40 tons of pork during this peak month to make various products. Chau Huong Pork Sausage currently has three main products: pork sausage made from rolled pork leg, rolled pork belly, and rolled pork ear, each with its own delicious flavor, giving customers many choices to suit their needs. In addition, the facility also offers other diverse products such as goat sausage, fermented beef sausage, grilled beef skewers, salted beef tendons, and beef sausage with cartilage... all high-quality items favored on Tet holiday meals. Improving quality and design is also a priority.

Besides focusing on improving quality, OCOP product brands are also prioritizing improving designs and innovating distribution channels to bring consumers the best products during the traditional Tet holiday. Many production facilities and cooperatives in Nghe An have received orders early, intensified promotion, and continuously strived to expand production and business. Hand-painted gift boxes are an advantage that makes the lotus-based products of Phuc An Farm, a brand of Loc Phat Production, Trade, Service and Investment Joint Stock Company, more unique, eye-catching, and stand out from other products in the same segment. Beyond focusing on quality, each lotus-based product from Phuc An Farm also carries a strong spiritual value through each painting meticulously crafted by Phuc An's artisans, depicting simple and familiar images to Vietnamese people. To date, the company has launched 15 product lines processed from lotus, including flagship products such as lotus seed hearts, red lotus tea, lotus flower tea, lotus-infused tea, lotus leaf tea, dried lotus root… and various jams made from other agricultural products. Phuc An Farm's products have achieved 3-star OCCOP certification at the provincial level, and some products are exported to the US, Australia, Japan, South Korea, and Laos. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Huy, founder of Phuc An Farm, said: “Our partners are very diverse, ranging from large and small companies in various fields to government departments… Therefore, we have created many products that are healthy gifts, embodying the rich cultural values of the Vietnamese people. This Tet holiday, we have launched 5,000 gift boxes that are both aesthetically pleasing and high-quality.” At this time, OCOP production facilities are also rushing to perfect their products to serve the Tet market. Given the current consumer demand for traditional products, especially those certified under the OCOP program for food safety and health benefits, many businesses are now offering unique Tet gift baskets to meet gifting needs. These Tet gift baskets range in price from 250,000 VND to several million VND per basket/box, providing customers with diverse options to suit their gifting needs this Tet holiday. Ms. Nguyen Thi Lien, owner of Baly Foods grain production facility, stated that her company constantly researches and develops new products to meet market demands. This year's Tet version has not only been well-received by the domestic market but has also been ordered by many businesses as gifts for their partners. This year, the trend of choosing OCOP products as gifts has increased significantly. Therefore, OCOP producers are collaborating to launch high-quality Tet gift products such as: processed lotus products combined with Shan Tuyet tea; crispy dried jackfruit and chewy dried mango combined with lotus tea; dried beef and sausages combined with Khau Hin wine and herbal wine… which are popular in the market. According to Mr. Nham Sy Thanh, Director of Lotte Mart Vinh Supermarket, in the past two years, consumers have increasingly embraced Vietnamese agricultural specialty products, especially local specialties. This is thanks to the quality of the goods, their unique characteristics, support from transportation, and the encouragement of domestic consumption. Besides focusing on producing orders for the Tet market, businesses, cooperatives, and producers are also paying attention to designing eye-catching OCOP gift baskets to facilitate gifting during Tet. In reality, many OCOP products not only have good quality but also attractive designs, making them easy to penetrate supermarket chains and organic food stores. This not only contributes to rural economic development but also aims for export. Mr. Nguyen Ho Lam, Deputy Head of the Department of Cooperative Economics and Rural Development in Nghe An, said that currently, thanks to the application of science and technology in production, improved product designs, barcodes, QR codes for traceability, and many products registered for intellectual property and geographical indications, meet the stringent requirements of the market. Making OCOP products into gift items for Tet (Lunar New Year) will open up a new direction in product consumption, while simultaneously enhancing brand image and creating a promotional effect for OCOP products.
