Products from the mountains
Six months ago, the "Legend of Ngoc Linh Ginseng" tour officially opened along the misty roads of Nam Tra My (formerly Quang Nam province).
Over two days, visitors can explore the ginseng temple in Kon Pin village (Tra Linh commune), experience trekking through the forest, visit the Ngoc Linh ginseng garden at an altitude of over 1,800m (Mang Lung village, Tra Linh commune), and go cloud hunting at Tak Po peak (Tra Tap commune). During this journey, visitors can enjoy traditional specialties, including dishes made from ginseng, engage in cultural exchange with the Xo Dang people, and listen to stories about Ngoc Linh ginseng amidst the vast forests of Quang Nam province.
Thus, from a valuable medicinal product, Ngoc Linh ginseng – with its long-standing reputation – has opened up a new direction for highland tourism development. This is the direction that the Tra Tap Agricultural and Medicinal Tourism Cooperative is implementing in collaboration with tourism units.
“I have been connected to the mountains and forests, and to the local people, for 15 years. The cooperative's activities are always aimed at spreading the values of the land and people, contributing to promoting highland products, creating sustainable livelihoods, and helping people get rich in their own homeland,” shared Ms. Ho Thi Thuy Ngan, Director of Tra Tap Agricultural and Medicinal Tourism Cooperative.
Ms. Ngan said that recently, Ngoc Linh ginseng and its distinctive products were proudly showcased to a large audience at the 2025 Autumn Fair in Hanoi . The expectations for a Ngoc Linh ginseng product "Made in Da Nang" to reach greater heights and expand its reach are now more realistic.
Fragrance of the plains
Beneath the year-round blazing fire of the sesame brittle ovens by the Cam Le River, the story of the creator of this delicacy is passed down, dating back at least to the Nguyen Dynasty. Over time, its simple flavor, enjoyed during festivals, holidays, and ancestral commemorations, has become a signature product of Da Nang, showcased at many events and a popular gift for tourists from near and far.

Mr. Huynh Duc Sol, owner of the Ba Lieu Me sesame cracker business (Cam Le ward), is the third-generation successor of his family. He says that sesame crackers, in the memories of previous generations, were a staple food for revolutionary cadres and soldiers in the area during the resistance war. As proof, he points to the memorial stele commemorating the Cam Le bridgehead during the French resistance period (1946-1954) in the old Hoa Vang area, located next to the cracker factory. This shows that sesame crackers are not just a common food but also a part of history.
Over the years, Ba Lieu Me sesame brittle has established itself with 6 products recognized as 4-star OCOP products. The main markets for the product are currently Da Nang and many other major cities, with distribution channels including agents, direct sales to consumers, social media, and websites.
Over the past year, sesame brittle was invited by the Ministry of Industry and Trade to participate in a promotional event in Moscow (Russian Federation); and was introduced by the Da Nang Department of Industry and Trade at the ASEAN-Korea Trade Fair 2025 in Seoul. Recently, the sesame brittle from Quang Nam province was featured in the working visit of the Cam Le ward delegation to Muju district, Jeonbuk Special Autonomous Province (South Korea). Wherever they went, both domestically and internationally, the image of the simple yet delicious "Made in Da Nang" sesame brittle received special attention from visitors.
Suggestions for "Made in Da Nang" products
Besides sesame brittle and Ngoc Linh ginseng, Quang Nam province also boasts the aroma of fish sauce from coastal areas like Nam O, Cua Khe, and Cua Dai; baked coconut cakes; Tra My cinnamon; bird's nest; rehmannia root; seven-leaf one-flower ginseng; rice paper; mung bean cakes; and handicrafts… creating a diverse range of "Made in Da Nang" products that fully reflect the unique identity of Quang Nam.
However, for "Made in Da Nang" products to truly reach their full potential, there are still challenges to overcome. Like Sol, after successfully exporting sesame brittle through unofficial channels to foreign markets, he still harbors the ambition of exporting through official channels, but faces obstacles, particularly tariffs. Regarding production space, he hopes the city will provide land to build a space that recreates the traditional sesame brittle making village, combining production with opportunities for tourists to visit and experience the craft.
From the mountainous region, Ms. Ho Thi Thuy Ngan expressed that while there is potential for developing medicinal plants and tourism in the mountains, the long distances, complex natural disasters, and landslides are obstacles in promoting products. Therefore, a significant upgrade in transportation infrastructure is needed. This opinion was shared by Mr. Coor Le, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Giang commune: "Our people produce many unique products, but they face difficulties in finding markets due to limited road access. Only with a comprehensive upgrade of transportation infrastructure can trade between the lowlands and the highlands be strengthened."
According to assessments from many organizations and businesses in the area, Da Nang, with its vast scale and expansive landscape encompassing mountains, forests, rivers, and the sea, provides a favorable environment for "Made in Da Nang" products to expand their market. In one way or another, each product embodies a piece of the geography and culture of Quang Nam province. Therefore, appropriate guidance is needed to ensure that the "Made in Da Nang" product identification map maximizes its unique identity and value.
