With the theme "The Flame of Youth Shines Brightly," the program reviewed the history of the founding of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam and the glorious traditions of the Youth Union of the Central Agencies of the Southern Region over the past 65 years.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Chau, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Youth Union's Resistance Tradition Club of the Central Agencies of the Southern Region, emotionally recalled the tradition. Sixty-five years ago, on December 20, 1960, at the Central Agencies Base in the Southern Region, the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam officially launched itself to the nation. The Front's establishment, with its ten-point program, proved the correctness of the Party's line. The National Liberation Front of South Vietnam was a great gathering of workers, peasants, soldiers, political parties, religions, and ethnic groups, operating vigorously and effectively in all three regions – mountainous, lowland, and urban – with a three-pronged strategy: military, political , and troop mobilization. The revolution in the South gained increasingly strong momentum and strength.
From its early days, tens of thousands of young people from all over the country flocked to "R" – the revolutionary base of the North Tay Ninh War Zone. Under the leadership of the Party, the Central Committee of the National Liberation Front, and the Youth Union, generations of young people were ready to sacrifice for the independence and freedom of the nation under the action slogans "Live, fight, work, and study following the example of the great Uncle Ho" and "Wherever youth are needed, youth will be there; whatever is difficult, youth will overcome it."
From labor, digging tunnels, building houses, advising leaders in various fields to fighting on the front lines, they all excellently fulfilled their assigned tasks. A prime example is the Junction City counter-insurgency battle (dry season 1966-1967), where our army and people eliminated 8,310 invaders, destroyed dozens of tanks, and shot down dozens of aircraft. The guerrilla forces produced hundreds of brave soldiers. This is a source of pride for the generation of Youth Union members who fought selflessly for the country and the people, a testament to the will, determination, and ideals of the youth in "R".
The achievements and sacrifices of the youth union members of the Central Committee's agencies have been recognized by the Fatherland and the people. In 2014, the Youth Union of the Central Committee's agencies was awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the President of Vietnam . In the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, generations of youth union members of the Central Committee's agencies continue to uphold the revolutionary tradition, pioneering, accompanying, and standing shoulder to shoulder with the nation.
On this occasion, the Youth Union's Resistance Tradition Club of the Central Agencies of the Southern Region awarded 15 scholarships, each worth 1 million VND, to underprivileged students with excellent academic achievements in Tan Lap commune, Tay Ninh province.
Following the commemoration ceremony, delegates participated in a series of activities focusing on historical roots. Delegates offered incense and flowers, observed a minute of silence to commemorate the heroic martyrs who bravely sacrificed their lives in the wars for national independence, the liberation of the South, and the reunification of the country at the Hill 82 Martyrs' Cemetery; they also reviewed the glorious traditions of the Youth Union at the Memorial Area of the Central Base of the Ho Chi Minh People's Revolutionary Youth Union and the Monument to the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam at the Central Bureau of the Southern Region Historical Site...
