According to sources from Macworld , Apple plans to expand the Ultra brand to two new products later this year, including high-end iPhones and MacBooks.

Based on rumors, the iPhone Ultra is likely to be used for a foldable iPhone. Instead of being part of the Pro line, which is also being upgraded in September, Apple will market the iPhone Ultra as its top-of-the-line phone.

Previously, many predicted the device would be called the iPhone Fold. However, Macworld suggests that Apple will choose the name iPhone Ultra to provide clearer differentiation.

Apple has used the "Ultra" designation for several products. In 2022, the company's top-of-the-line smartwatch and processor were named Apple Watch Ultra and M1 Ultra, respectively. Both products are powerful and the most expensive in their respective categories.

Notably, the iPhone Ultra will not be part of the iPhone 18 series, meaning the device will not have the number 18 in its name, similar to last year's iPhone Air.

"The iPhone Ultra will be the highlight of the September event. Apple is trying to sell the iPhone Ultra at the same time as the iPhone 18 Pro, avoiding any delays. However, the device may still reach users a few weeks later and in limited quantities," Macworld reported .

The iPhone Ultra is considered the biggest upgrade to an Apple smartphone to date. Unlike previous years, Apple will not upgrade the iPhone Air and basic iPhones in the fall, instead postponing the release to early 2027 along with the iPhone 18e.

The reason Apple is using the name MacBook Ultra is likely similar to the iPhone Ultra. The product is expected to be significantly more expensive than the MacBook Pro, and will feature first-time elements such as a touch-enabled OLED display.

The MacBook Ultra name helps Apple differentiate its product line more clearly from the MacBook Pro, a device suitable for those who don't need the latest technology.

Apple reportedly planned to launch the MacBook Ultra later this year. However, the launch date may be pushed back to early 2027 due to memory shortages.

The Ultra brand could also expand to AirPods with a camera-integrated version, alongside the M5 Ultra processor expected to appear with the new Mac Studio.

An iPad model could also be called Ultra. In a Bloomberg Power On report , analyst Mark Gurman stated that the product will feature a foldable screen, a priority for new CEO John Ternus.
