Seaplanes will soon be available to bring tourists to Co To Island.

From July onwards, tourists in Quang Ninh can fly from Ha Long to Co To by seaplane, enjoying the scenery from above while also shortening travel time.

Relevant units today surveyed the conditions for takeoff and landing on the flight route from Tuan Chau Island - Ha Long to Co To and conducted flight training for seaplane pilots in Co To district.

According to Mr. Nguyen Ba Hai, Captain of the Seaplane Company of Hai An Aviation Joint Stock Company, the opening of the route will reduce the travel time from Ha Long to Co To Island to 20 minutes (previously 90 minutes). During the journey, tourists will be able to admire Ha Long Bay, Bai Tu Long Bay, Ngoc Vung Island, Quan Lan Island, Minh Chau Island, and the entire Co To Island from above.

"Through our survey, we found that Co To has many advantages for air travel, and we are confident that we meet all the conditions and standards to launch air routes to Co To Island," Mr. Hai said.

The aircraft used for this route will be manufactured by Cessna Caravan, a subsidiary of Textrol Aerospace, USA. This is the largest and safest single-engine aircraft for landing on water (according to the Federal Aviation Administration and the International Civil Aviation Organization), meeting standards for stability, fuel efficiency, and safety. This type of aircraft is also considered capable of flying and landing on any body of water or land runway.

Co To Island is currently a popular tourist destination in Quang Ninh province. In the first five months of 2023, the island district welcomed nearly 72,000 visitors, with an average stay of nearly 157,000 days, and an average stay of over two days per visitor. In May 2023 alone, Co To district received nearly 39,000 visitors, including over 1,100 international tourists.
