Apple released the first beta of iOS 26.3 in December 2025, just days after launching iOS 26.2. The new update could make transferring data from iPhones to Android devices easier. Currently, developers and public beta users can access this feature.
Apple and Google aren't known for their collaborations. But in recent years, Apple has brought the RCS messaging standard to its Messages app, suggesting more interaction between the two companies. Now, the iOS 26.3 beta even offers an option to simplify the transition from iPhone to Android.
Currently, iOS 26.3 is not the final version, so bugs may exist and cause the battery to drain faster. Users should test it on a secondary device to avoid problems.
Additionally, it's worth noting that when version 26.3 is officially released, iPhones may add more features and automatically install them. Apple has not yet announced when this update will reach general users, but it is likely to be in early 2026.
Many users have considered switching from iPhone to Android because the data transfer process is quite cumbersome. Android now offers a 5-step process to facilitate the transfer, which includes turning off FaceTime and Messages, as well as connecting the two devices with a cable.
The iOS 26.3 beta introduces a new option that allows direct connection between iPhones and Android devices. First, users go to Settings, select General, and tap Transfer or Reset iPhone.
Near the bottom of the page you'll find a "Transfer to Android" section. Tap on it and follow the on-screen instructions to transfer photos, messages, apps, and other data to your Android device.
The first iOS 26.3 beta also introduced the ability to forward notifications to other devices, such as non-Apple smartwatches. Third-party watches like Garmin and Samsung can manage notifications at a level comparable to the Apple Watch.
To access this feature, go to Notifications in Settings and select Notification Forwarding. In the description, Apple states that notifications can only be forwarded to one accessory at a time and will not appear on the Apple Watch when Notification Forwarding is enabled.
Apple still has plenty of time to refine existing features and add new ones. It's likely there will be further beta versions before the operating system is officially released.
More broadly, iOS 26.3 isn't a standalone update. Prior to that, iOS 26.1 and 26.2 showed Apple was quietly adjusting its approach to the operating system, from adding new features to the Liquid Glass design to improving customization and user experience, rather than focusing solely on hardware.
