Timely sharing
In celebration of this year's Workers' Month, the Binh Thanh District Labor Union (Ho Chi Minh City) organized the program "Helping Children Take Firm Steps Towards School." The program presented 190 gifts (each worth 1.3 million VND) to families of union members and workers raising young children. This is a very meaningful activity, helping workers overcome difficult times in their lives. Along with the gifts, the Binh Thanh District Labor Union also donated 3 electric scooters and 65 bicycles to children of union members and workers in particularly difficult circumstances.
Sharing in the joy of hundreds of working-class families, Ms. Huynh Thi Thu, an employee of Long Dinh Stationery Co., Ltd. (Binh Thanh District), was delighted that her son received an electric bicycle to ride to school. Ms. Thu explained that her family faces many difficulties: her husband's job is unstable, she has cancer, they live in rented accommodation, their children are of school age, and they also care for their elderly parents, both over 90 years old. “When the trade union surveyed our family's circumstances to provide a means of transportation for my son to school, I was so happy. Now that he has received an electric bicycle, it will be more convenient for him to travel from home to school, and my husband and I will have less worry about picking him up and dropping him off,” Ms. Thu expressed.
For nearly half a month now, after work, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy, from Freetrend Co., Ltd. (Linh Trung I Export Processing Zone, Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City), no longer has to rush to makeshift markets to buy household goods. Since the Union Member Welfare Point organized by the Trade Union of Export Processing Zones and Industrial Parks (EPZs) of Ho Chi Minh City was established at the JOY Citypoint building - Linh Trung I EPZ, thousands of workers have had a place to buy quality goods.
The welfare center is designed like a mini-supermarket with thousands of essential goods to serve the daily needs of workers. Ms. Thuy shared that the location is very convenient, the prices of each item are publicly displayed on the counters and are sold at discounted prices, ranging from 3% to 30% off market prices.
According to Mr. Lam Ngoc Man, Vice Chairman of the Trade Union of Industrial Parks and Export Processing Zones in Ho Chi Minh City, in recent times, the Trade Union of Industrial Parks and Export Processing Zones in Ho Chi Minh City has signed welfare agreements with businesses to bring products and goods directly to workers at reasonable prices. This is considered one of the modern shopping channels, with a commitment to quality, safety, and price stability, specifically for union members and workers.
Create a forum for direct dialogue.
One of the programs implemented by the city's trade union that has created a beautiful highlight during Workers' Month in recent years is "Thank You, Workers." This activity honors the value of workers and thanks union members and workers for their positive contributions to the enterprise.
Mr. Cu Phat Nghiep, Chairman of the Trade Union of PouYuen Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Binh Tan District, Ho Chi Minh City), said that during this year's Workers' Month, the company's management board presented 993 taels of gold (18K) to employees who have been with the company for 15 years or more. In addition, the company also donated two "Trade Union Shelters," each worth 50 million VND, to workers facing housing difficulties.
At Nissei Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Linh Trung I Industrial Park), workers recently enjoyed a delicious weekend meal with an attractive menu: BBQ ribs, beef stew with green peppercorns, stir-fried frog, braised duck with aromatic spices, deep-fried chicken, mixed salad, seaweed soup, vegetarian broken rice, rice noodle soup, red bean sweet soup, etc. Notably, employees could choose two from a variety of savory dishes on the menu. This is a practical way to thank employees for their dedication to the company.
According to Nguyen Thai Thanh, Vice Chairman of the Trade Union of Export Processing Zones and Industrial Parks in Ho Chi Minh City, this year, the "Thank You to Workers" program will be organized in five areas to care for 15,000 union members and workers employed in businesses in export processing zones and industrial parks in Ho Chi Minh City. Each gift package is worth 1 million VND. In addition, during the 17th Workers' Month, the Trade Union of Export Processing Zones and Industrial Parks in Ho Chi Minh City will also donate 630 gift packages to support union members and workers suffering from serious illnesses.
In addition, city-level trade unions also organized medical examinations and healthcare for thousands of workers. For example, recently, the Ho Chi Minh City Federation of Labor organized cancer screenings for female workers in difficult circumstances at the Vinh Loc Industrial Park. This year, Workers' Month also highlighted important dialogue forums between workers and Party and Government leaders, as well as local leaders. From these forums, many proposals and recommendations from workers were received.
According to Mr. Vo Khac Thai, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Federation of Labor, the Workers' Month, coinciding with the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birth, is an opportunity for city-level trade unions to concretize and skillfully apply President Ho Chi Minh's ideology in every activity representing, protecting, and caring for union members and workers. Through this, the study and emulation of President Ho Chi Minh's teachings will truly become a regular activity at all levels of trade unions and for every union member and worker.
