This was manager Michael Carrick's 11th win in 16 Premier League matches. This result ensures Manchester United will finish the season in the top three and secure a place in next season's Champions League.
After the match, Schmeichel praised the attacking spirit that MU displayed, but suggested that the team could have won by a much larger margin if they had made better use of the opportunities created.
“The game was really exciting,” Schmeichel said. “The second half was full of back-and-forth attacking play, and much of the first half was the same. Anything could have happened, the score could have been 7-6, and Bruno Fernandes could have been trying to catch up to the assist record.”
The former Manchester United goalkeeper believes the coaching staff needs to review the finishing ability of the attacking line, especially those individuals who squandered opportunities against Forest. Among them is Bryan Mbeumo, who scored a goal and ended an 11-game goalless streak for Manchester United.
In fact, Mbeumo missed three clear-cut chances against Forest. According to StatMuse , the Cameroonian striker is also the player with the most missed clear-cut scoring opportunities for MU this season, with 12, the same as Benjamin Sesko.
Next season, with the Champions League and numerous domestic competitions to contend with, the Manchester United coaching staff will need to improve their strikers' ability to capitalize on opportunities if they want to compete for titles.
Following their victory against Forest, MU will conclude the season with an away match against Brighton on May 24th.
