Quang Ninh province boasts a rich natural ecosystem with vast forest areas, a long coastline, and thousands of islands of varying sizes. This creates a diverse range of medicinal resources, from valuable inland plants to numerous marine organisms with high pharmacological value. In recent years, the province has focused on preserving and developing medicinal plant areas such as *Ba Kich* (Radix Polygoni Multiflori), *Tra Tra Hoa Vang* (Radix Camelliae), *Dang Sam* (Radix Codonopsis Pilosulae), and *Ca Gai Leo* (Radix Silybum Marianum). Simultaneously, many products derived from medicinal plants have been developed into OCOP (One Commune One Product) products, contributing to increased economic value for the local people.

Beyond its abundant terrestrial medicinal resources, Quang Ninh also possesses significant potential in marine medicinal materials. Various types of seaweed, algae, oysters, sea cucumbers, and many other marine organisms are considered to contain numerous valuable active compounds that can be used in the production of medicines, health supplements, and cosmetics. This is also an area of research attracting considerable attention from many countries, aimed at improving public health.
With over 250km of coastline and a diverse marine ecosystem, Quang Ninh not only possesses great potential in marine economy, tourism, and fisheries, but is also considered a region rich in natural medicinal resources. Leveraging this advantage, the Quang Ninh Health sector is gradually expanding cooperation in research and development of traditional medicine and marine medicinal herbs, aiming to create healthcare products that bear the distinctive mark of the Northeast region.
To effectively exploit this potential, the Quang Ninh Health Department has strengthened cooperation with research institutes, experts, and businesses in the fields of traditional medicine, medicinal herbs, and biotechnology. Through these cooperation programs, many important issues have been addressed, such as research on bioactive compounds from the sea, conservation of valuable medicinal plant genetic resources, and the application of science and technology to deep processing and development of natural health care products.

Alongside this, the quality of the traditional medicine system in the province is gradually improving. Medical facilities are strengthening the integration of traditional and modern medicine in disease treatment, rehabilitation, and healthcare for the people. Many new techniques and non-drug treatment methods have been effectively implemented, contributing to meeting the increasing healthcare needs of the people.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Quoc Huy, Director of the Vietnam Academy of Traditional Medicine, stated: Quang Ninh province has a great advantage in terms of its marine ecosystem, abundant biological resources, and the need to develop high-quality healthcare products. This creates favorable conditions for both sides to implement in-depth research programs on marine medicinal plants, bioactive compounds, and applied pharmaceutical products in the future.
In the context of increasing demand for natural products, the development of marine medicinal herbs is considered a suitable direction in line with current trends. This also presents an opportunity for Quang Ninh to build its own brand in the field of traditional medicine, gradually bringing healthcare products with the unique characteristics of the Northeast coastal region to a wider market.
Dr. Bui Manh Hung, Director of the Quang Ninh Department of Health, stated: Quang Ninh is currently orienting its healthcare sector towards a modern, specialized, sustainable, and integrated approach, with particular attention paid to the harmonious combination of modern and traditional medicine to improve the quality of healthcare for the people. Therefore, strengthening cooperation with reputable training and research institutions is a necessary requirement in the current period.
