Sesko had a well-received debut. |
Manager Ruben Amorim brought Benjamin Sesko on in the second half, as Manchester United were desperately trying to find an equalizer against Arsenal. However, Sesko's first-team debut was not a dream start, as United were unable to score and suffered a 0-1 defeat at Old Trafford.
Sesko played the final 25 minutes plus injury time. He was frequently present in the Arsenal penalty area, but was clearly still out of sync with his new teammates. Sesko was absent from Manchester United's best attacking moves, as the Slovenian forward was still struggling to find his place on the pitch in real time.
Nevertheless, former Manchester United legends still rate the Slovenian newcomer highly. Former defender Mikael Silvestre praised Sesko's intelligent movement, always looking for space and receiving the ball in dangerous areas. Despite his height of 1.96 meters, Sesko is very agile.
When asked if he wanted to face Sesko head-on, Silvestre laughed: “Absolutely not. You’d have to find a way to go around him. It’s very difficult. He’s tall and extremely annoying.”
Former striker Wayne Rooney told BBC Sport that he really liked Sesko's positioning and praised the new signing's promise. On social media, many fans also expressed excitement about the positive signs.
In August, MU will have three matches: away against Fulham, home against Burnley at Old Trafford, and in between, a Carabao Cup game against Grimsby. Sesko will be aiming for a starting spot in all three matches as manager Amorim wants him to quickly integrate into the team. The sooner his first goal comes, the greater his confidence will be.
Last season, Rasmus Hojlund had to wait until December to score his first Premier League goal for Manchester United. If Sesko can do that this month, it would be a huge success.
