Sesko has a positive debut |
Coach Ruben Amorim brought on Benjamin Sesko in the second half, when MU were trying to find an equalizer against Arsenal. However, Sesko's first-team debut did not turn out to be a dream start, as MU failed to score and suffered a 0-1 defeat at Old Trafford.
Sesko played the final 25 minutes plus added time. He was a regular presence in the Arsenal penalty area, but was clearly still out of sync with his new teammates. United's best combinations did not involve Sesko, with the Slovenian still struggling to find his footing on the pitch in real time.
However, former MU players still highly appreciate the Slovenian rookie. Former defender Mikael Silvestre said Sesko moves intelligently, always looking to create space and receive the ball in dangerous areas. Despite being 1.96 meters tall, Sesko is very flexible.
Asked if he would like to face Sesko, Silvestre laughed: “Absolutely not. You have to find a way around him. It’s very difficult. He’s big and very difficult.”
Former striker Wayne Rooney told BBC Sport that he really liked the way Sesko chose his position, and praised the promise of the new signing. On social media, many fans also expressed excitement at the positive signs.
United have three games in August: away to Fulham, home to Burnley at Old Trafford and in between against Grimsby in the Carabao Cup. Sesko will be aiming to start all three games as Amorim wants him to settle in quickly. The sooner he scores his first goal, the greater his confidence.
Last season, Rasmus Hojlund had to wait until December to score his first Premier League goal for United. If Sesko can do it this month, it will be a huge success.
