Sesko (left) is under a lot of pressure. |
With Manchester United still struggling to find stability, Benjamin Sesko is one of the names under the most scrutiny. The Slovenian striker arrived at Old Trafford with high expectations, but the first few rounds of matches have raised more questions than answers. That's not unusual. For a young center forward, the Premier League is always a tough test.
If Sesko had to choose one match to "unlock" his scoring touch, the clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers would be the perfect time. The opponent wasn't overwhelmingly superior, Old Trafford offered enough pressure but also enough support, and Manchester United were forced to play an attacking game. This is the kind of context a striker needs to rediscover his goal-scoring form.
Sesko has no shortage of qualities. His good physique, long stride, acceleration, and diverse finishing abilities give him all the tools to succeed.
The issue lies in confidence and rhythm. Young strikers often need a moment of release. Just one goal, even a simple tap-in, can completely change the way they play.
Once Sesko finds his rhythm, things can happen very quickly. He's not the type of striker who needs many opportunities to feel valued, but rather needs to feel that the team trusts him and serves him properly. And this is where MU needs to re-evaluate.

Sesko has not lived up to expectations at MU. |
For many years, MU has consistently fallen into a familiar cycle: signing strikers, setting high expectations, but failing to create the conditions for them to score. Strikers are isolated, forced to fend for themselves amidst opposing defenders, and then judged solely by cold statistics. Sesko is at risk of repeating that path if MU doesn't change.
MU needs to improve its support. Crosses need to be more accurate. Through passes need to be delivered earlier. Most importantly, more players need to penetrate the penalty area to share the pressure. A young striker cannot simultaneously hold up the ball, press, and create chances in every situation.
The match against Wolves is therefore not only a test for Sesko, but also a test for MU itself. If the team creates enough opportunities, Sesko will have room to shine. If not, even if he doesn't score, he can hardly be held entirely responsible. The problem lies not with the individual, but with the structure.
For Sesko, this wasn't a game to prove whether he was the "right or wrong signing." That's a much longer story. This was simply an opportunity to unleash his mental fortitude. A goal could open the door to a winning streak. A moment of confidence could change the entire season.
Old Trafford has witnessed many young strikers rise to prominence from seemingly ordinary matches. Against Wolves, Benjamin Sesko has that opportunity. Nothing extraordinary is needed. Just a goal. And if Manchester United do their part, that moment could very well come.
