On March 19, the Ministry of Education and Training issued guidelines for organizing the 2026 high school graduation exam.
Accordingly, candidates can register for the exam from April 24th to 5 PM on May 5th. The exam results will be announced at 8 AM on July 1st.
Candidates taking the high school graduation exam must take four subjects, including compulsory Mathematics and Literature. For the two elective subjects, candidates choose from those they have studied in school (Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Geography, History, Economics and Law Education, Informatics, Agricultural Technology, Industrial Technology, and Foreign Language).
The Literature exam is in essay format. The remaining subjects are multiple-choice with questions including multiple-choice, true/false, and short-answer questions.

Professor Nguyen Ngoc Ha, Deputy Director of Quality Management, Ministry of Education and Training, stated in February that this year's exam will still focus on assessing practical skills, closely following the new curriculum, and maintaining a differentiation ratio of 4:3:3 for the levels of knowledge, comprehension, and application. Similar to last year, the Ministry did not release sample exam questions.
In previous years, around one million students took the high school graduation exam, and more than 50% subsequently got into university with these scores.

In the graduation score calculation formula, subject scores account for 50%; the remaining 50% comes from the academic transcript scores of grades 10, 11, and 12, and any bonus points (if applicable).
