Sharp LDK+ concept: Electric minivan geared towards production.

Sharp's LDK+ concept uses the Foxconn Model A platform, moving closer to mass production with sliding doors, swivel chairs, projectors; AIoT connectivity for refrigerators, and V2H support.

Sharp is introducing a more refined version of the LDK+ concept – an electric minivan based on a Foxconn platform – scheduled to debut at the Japan Mobility Show at the end of October. The vehicle focuses on AIoT connectivity with household appliances (from toasters and refrigerators to air conditioners and washing machines), while also supporting V2H, integrating solar power and consumer battery systems.

Compared to the 2024 prototype, the LDK+ is closer to production: its body proportions resemble a traditional minivan, it features full-width LED headlights, sliding doors, and a vertical rear end. Details such as the traditional rearview mirrors and door handles suggest a commercialization direction.

Practical design language, full-width LED strip.

The new LDK+ design emphasizes practicality, simplicity, and ease of production. The front end features a striking LED strip that extends across the entire width, integrated into the grille area bearing the Sharp logo. The two-tone body adds a touch of style while maintaining a neutral aesthetic, suitable for multi-purpose use.

Sliding doors and a vertical tailgate optimize access and interior space, while the retention of traditional rearview mirrors and door handles is a clear signal of production viability, rather than just a design experiment.

Cabins are like mobile living rooms.

The LDK+ utilizes a flat floor layout with pillar-free, wide-opening doors, allowing for easy entry and exit from the interior. The driver's seat can swivel backward, and it comes with an integrated control panel with a folding table, facilitating various living or working scenarios while the vehicle is parked.

The rear seats, originally for three people, are positioned further back, sacrificing cargo space for a "living room" feel with interior lighting. Compared to the original concept of a 65-inch screen, the update switches to a projector and a retractable screen mounted above the rear seats, transforming the cabin into a mobile cinema or remote workspace.

Performance and powertrain: information remains confidential.

Sharp has not yet announced the specifications for the electric powertrain, motor, or battery pack of the LDK+. What is confirmed at this time is that the vehicle shares a platform with Foxconn Model A – a platform previously introduced as a prototype in 2024 with a modular design philosophy, easily customizable for both personal and professional transport purposes.

Nevertheless, modifications to body proportions, door configuration options, and interior layout suggest a preference for everyday use, emphasizing the comfort and versatility of an electric minivan. Assessments of performance, range, and charging times can only be determined once the manufacturer releases detailed technical specifications.

Safety and technology: AIoT, V2H, and the home appliance ecosystem.

At the heart of LDK+'s technology is the AIoT platform developed by Sharp, which allows the vehicle to synchronize with household appliances such as air conditioners, washing machines, and even toasters and refrigerators. The system uses AI to learn user habits and preferences in order to automate tasks at home and in the vehicle.

In terms of energy, LDK+ supports V2H (Vehicle-to-Home), integrating solar power and connecting to residential battery systems, thereby potentially becoming a link in the home energy ecosystem. Advanced driver assistance features (ADAS) have not yet been announced; if commercialized, the model is expected to meet current safety standards in target markets.

Pricing and positioning: projected route

Foxconn stated that its minivan model is expected to begin rolling out in Japan in early 2027, before expanding to ASEAN markets. As for Sharp, the timing and location of the commercial launch of the LDK+ have not yet been confirmed; details are expected to emerge at the Japan Mobility Show at the end of October.

With its flexible cabin configuration and deep integration with the home ecosystem, LDK+ targets families and mobile service customers who need a versatile parking space. However, pricing, equipment configurations, and distribution plans remain unknown.
