Students confidently "pass the exam".

After a period of diligent preparation, along with the rest of the country, today students in Quang Tri province officially begin the 2025 high school graduation exam with confidence and determination. Despite the pressure and anxieties, their belief, willpower, and expectations are providing them with the motivation to overcome this challenge and continue pursuing their future dreams.

Excited to leave the examination hall.

From the lowlands to the highlands across the province, this year's high school graduation exam was quite lively and not as stressful as in previous years. 2025 marks the first year of implementing the high school graduation exam according to the 2018 General Education Program, with a focus on developing students' qualities and competencies.

Accordingly, the exam was organized for both students studying under the 2018 General Education Program and students studying under the 2006 General Education Program, with two different exam papers. In the morning, candidates took the Literature exam first, in the sweltering heat of the last days of June.

After 120 minutes of tense and focused testing, many candidates at examination centers in Hai Lang district left the exam rooms feeling quite relaxed. Many groups of students lingered, enthusiastically discussing the Literature exam questions. Vo Thai Binh , a student taking the exam at Bui Duc Tai High School in Hai Lang district, shared: “I did quite well on the Literature exam, completing all the questions. In my opinion, the graduation exam questions based on the new general education program this year are quite good and innovative so far.”

Regarding Math, I think it will be more difficult with many practical questions. I've studied very thoroughly for this subject. In the past few days, besides studying for the exam at school, I've also searched online for practice exams from other specialized schools to work on. I'm confident I'll get a high score in Math.” Binh also mentioned his plan to apply to Da Nang University of Technology and Education.

Meanwhile, at the Dakrong High School examination center in Dakrong district, many candidates also left the exam venue in high spirits. Ho Thi Thanh Thuy, who dreams of studying early childhood education at Hue University of Education, said she completed about 60% of the Literature exam. “I did quite well on the reading comprehension section, but the writing section was difficult, so I only scored above average. I will have to work harder on the remaining subjects to achieve the best possible results,” Thuy said.

At the Quang Tri College of Education's inter-level high school examination center this afternoon, most candidates only left the examination rooms after the bell signaled the end of the exam. Their mood was generally cheerful and happy. At this center, 140 candidates registered to take the Mathematics exam across 6 examination rooms. This is also the only location conducting the exam according to the 2006 General Education Program.

As one of the four candidates over 30 years old taking the exam this year, Ho Van Dan, 33, from Tria village, Huong Son commune, Huong Hoa district - one of the most remote villages in Quang Tri province - drove his motorbike hundreds of kilometers to the exam site at Quang Tri College of Education to take the exam.

After completing the first two exams, Mr. Dan breathed a sigh of relief, saying, “I’m quite confident in this graduation exam because I’ve studied thoroughly. I did well in Literature and Mathematics, so I hope to get good results. Tomorrow morning, I will try my best in the Social Sciences subjects. I work as a village official, so I’m striving to pass the graduation exam so that I can pursue higher education later to improve my skills and knowledge, and better serve the people in my village,” Mr. Dan shared. He also said he felt proud to be among the last group of candidates taking the exam under the 2006 General Education Program.

Accompanying the candidates

While students were concentrating on their exams inside the closed school gates, their parents waiting outside were equally anxious. Mr. Le Kha, 55, from Tra Tri village, Hai Hung commune, Hai Lang district, the father of a male student taking the exam at Quang Tri town high school, appeared quite nervous when the bell rang signaling the start of the exam. “Waiting for my son outside, I’m just as restless as many other parents. After 12 years of studying, I only hope he achieves good results so he can get into his desired universities,” Mr. Kha said.

Mr. Kha has three children, two of whom are studying in Ho Chi Minh City, while his youngest son is taking his graduation exams this time. He said that despite being busy with replanting rice crops that were flooded due to the recent unusual heavy rains, he still made time to take his son to the exams and take care of his nutrition and meals to ensure he was in the best possible frame of mind.

"I can't help with the knowledge, but I try to remind my child to review, wake up and sleep on time, and take care of their health. When going to the exam, I remind them to bring all the necessary documents and supplies...", Mr. Kha added.

Living in Gia Gia village, Huong Hiep commune - nearly 12 km from the exam site - Mr. Ho Van Xai, father of candidate Ho Thi Kieu, who is taking the exam at Dakrong High School, woke up very early to take his daughter to the exam. Although they didn't have time for breakfast, upon arriving at the school, they were warmly welcomed by the volunteer youth at the exam site with a heartwarming breakfast.

“Our house is far away and the road is difficult, so I had to put aside my farming work to try and bring my child to school. After the exam, my child and I stayed for lunch and registered for free meals so that my child could continue taking the exam in the afternoon. Thanks to the exam support team, my child and I, as well as many other parents and candidates from distant areas with difficult travel conditions, felt quite reassured. I sincerely thank the team very much,” Mr. Xai expressed.

This year, the Youth Union of Dakrong High School mobilized dozens of its members and young people, and also solicited resources to support ethnic minority students from remote areas by providing free meals, bottled water, and boxed milk; and assisting with calculators and printing study materials before the exam season.

At the exam site at Hai Lang High School, a team of over 20 youth union members arrived very early, enthusiastically encouraging, supporting, and assisting both candidates and parents. These volunteers in their green shirts quickly distributed free bottled water, fresh milk, and paper fans, arranged seating for parents, and neatly parked motorbikes, while also cleaning the area in front of the exam site.

Mr. Pham Van Anh Sang, in charge of the exam support team at Hai Lang High School, happily shared: “We are always ready and willing to do our best to accompany and assist candidates and parents in any way we can. I also wish all candidates confidence to do well in this exam and achieve the highest possible results.”
