Sinner's 20-match Grand Slam winning streak, along with 20 consecutive sets from the beginning of Roland Garros, was halted by Alcaraz in the early morning of June 9th. The match, which lasted 5 hours and 29 minutes, ended with a score of 6-4, 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-7 (3), 6-7 (2) in favor of the Spanish player.
Notably, after winning the first two sets, Sinner was very close to winning the Roland Garros title, leading 5-3, 40-0 in the fourth set, and had three championship points.
However, the wasteful three unforced errors proved to be the turning point, paving the way for Carlos Alcaraz's spectacular comeback, pushing Sinner out of the championship that seemed within his grasp.
Sinner said after receiving the Roland Garros silver trophy: "Every series comes to an end. In life, sometimes you gain and sometimes you lose. I'm happy to have been a part of this historic match, playing tennis at a very high level."
But after all, losing in the final is always painful. The winning points in set 4, the tie-break in set 5, are what will haunt me. I have to find a way to forget it, because there's nothing else I can do."
The Italian player added: "This match probably pushed both of us to our limits. It was the most grueling physical and mental test. It's hard to compare it to any match between us before. I was exhausted. I will learn lessons and positive things from this defeat."
"No one can change the past; it has already happened," Sinner reflected.

"I guess now is the time to receive support from my family and teammates. I'm so happy to see my mom in the stands, and I guess my dad is watching on TV. Whatever happens, as I've said before, I never imagined I'd be in this position. All of this isn't even a dream, because it's so far away," Sinner continued.
This was Sinner's first Grand Slam final against Alcaraz, but it was also his fifth consecutive loss to this rival. The 23-year-old Italian has won three of his four major finals and has eight Grand Slam titles, four fewer than Alcaraz.
As for the Spanish player, after winning Roland Garros, he now has 5 Grand Slam titles and 7 Masters 1000 titles.
After the tournament, Sinner will rest for a few days before participating in the ATP 500 tournament in Halle on grass in Germany. This is a familiar warm-up tournament for Sinner in preparation for Wimbledon at the end of June, as he embarks on his journey to defend the title he won last year.
