Samsung's ultra-slim smartphones are now heavily discounted.

Samsung's experiment with an ultra-thin phone appears to have failed, and the company is offering deep discounts to clear inventory. Plans for the next generation have also been canceled.

More than four months after its official launch in Vietnam, the Galaxy S25 Edge has seen significant price drops as it becomes widely available at many retailers. Samsung's pioneering ultra-slim phone is now listed at 30 and 33.5 million VND respectively. The main difference lies in the internal storage capacity. The product, launched during a low-demand market period, is expected to help the South Korean brand revive its flagship sales.

However, even though it's only mid-cycle, the device has already seen a drastic price reduction of over 30% from its original price. Specifically, one retailer with multiple stores in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City listed the 12GB RAM, 256GB internal storage version at 18.5 million VND, down from 30 million VND four months ago, a reduction of 11.5 million VND. At some larger retailers, this model is listed at 21-22 million VND. Similarly, the 512GB storage version is now only 20.7 million VND, a reduction of 12.2 million VND compared to the listed price.

The company's price adjustment also creates opportunities for customers who need the device to easily own it. However, this strategy affects early buyers. Just a few months after receiving the phone, their device has depreciated by tens of millions of VND. If this group wants to resell it, they suffer losses in the secondary market.

In the long run, this strategy also affects the manufacturer's brand recognition and sales. The perception of "quick depreciation" causes consumers to lose trust in the manufacturer. Instead of paying upfront to own the product early, they tend to wait for a price reduction.

The Galaxy S25 Edge appeared at the beginning of the year, alongside other products in the S25 series. However, the company only showcased a prototype at the event, without revealing the product's specifications. It wasn't until early May that the South Korean brand officially launched the product. The Galaxy S25 Edge impressed with its remarkably thin profile and light weight.

This phone goes against the trend of thicker and heavier designs on recent flagships. In return, the battery capacity is a mere 3,900 mAh, significantly lower than other phones with the same screen size. Samsung also downgraded the camera system on this model, leaving only the main sensor and ultrawide lens, omitting the telephoto camera. However, in tests, Samsung's product surprisingly delivered battery life comparable to models with 4,000-4,500 mAh batteries.

Less than a year after the Galaxy S25 Edge was launched, reports from South Korea indicate that its successor has been canceled due to low sales and a shift in business strategy.

According to internal reports, the Galaxy S26 Edge was designed with a 4,200 mAh battery and a multi-lens rear camera system. Despite its potential, the project was halted before completion. Meanwhile, Apple is also facing slower-than-expected iPhone Air sales, suggesting the ultra-slim phone line hasn't truly appealed to consumers.

Analysts believe that Samsung's constant shifts in direction could make its brand image unstable in the eyes of consumers. The South Korean tech giant was once a symbol of innovation in the mobile industry. However, in recent years, Samsung has only reacted to trends instead of creating something new.
