- In recent years, people in the province have increasingly chosen electric motorcycles and electric cars to meet their transportation needs. This reality creates an urgent need for planning and developing a synchronized charging station system to meet the needs of the people.
In reality, electric vehicles are increasingly being chosen by people due to their low operating costs, environmental friendliness, and alignment with the green transition trend. Not only in urban areas, but the number of people choosing to use electric vehicles in rural areas has also increased rapidly recently. However, the infrastructure supporting this type of vehicle still has many limitations, especially the charging station system.

Mr. Phung Van Thi, from Cho Bai village, Yen Phuc commune, said: "After researching, I found that electric cars have many advantages and save more fuel costs than gasoline cars, so my family is planning to buy an electric car. However, I find that the charging station system in the province is still quite sparse, and sometimes we have to travel far to find a charging point. This is one of the reasons why my family is still considering and hasn't decided to buy an electric car at this time."
It's not just Mr. Thi; the issue of charging station infrastructure is a concern for many people when switching from fossil fuel vehicles to electric vehicles. Although the trend of using electric vehicles is becoming increasingly popular, it's clear that the charging station infrastructure in the province still doesn't meet the actual needs.
According to statistics from Lang Son Power Company, the province currently has 27 electric vehicle charging stations. In reality, most of these charging stations are invested in by electric vehicle businesses and are located in shopping malls, hotels, and parking lots. The number of charging stations is still small and unevenly distributed, mainly concentrated in urban areas and the centers of older districts. Many national highways, tourist areas, and densely populated residential areas still lack charging points, causing difficulties for users traveling long distances.
For transportation, tourism, and service businesses, the lack of a comprehensively planned charging station infrastructure is also one of the obstacles when transitioning to electric vehicles. Mr. Do Anh Tuan, Operations Team Leader of Dong Bac Green Mobility Joint Stock Company, stated: "Since 2024, the company has been operating electric vehicles. Currently, the company has 155 vehicles serving the transportation needs of people in the province. The biggest difficulty right now is the lack of a comprehensively invested charging station system in the province. Some areas lack convenient charging points, forcing businesses to proactively plan routes, operating times, and charging schedules for their vehicles. Therefore, businesses hope the province will soon develop a suitable charging station network plan to meet the actual needs of people and businesses."
In light of the green transition trend, early research and development of a plan for electric vehicle charging station infrastructure in the province is essential. Discussing this issue, Mr. Nguyen Duy Dong, Deputy Director of the Department of Construction, stated: Developing electric vehicle charging station infrastructure is a new, interdisciplinary issue involving planning, land use, technical infrastructure, power supply, fire safety, technical standards, measurement, and operational management. Therefore, implementation requires comprehensive and cautious research, tailored to the local conditions and in accordance with legal regulations. Currently, the Department of Construction is coordinating with relevant departments and units to review existing regulations and advise the Provincial People's Committee on appropriate implementation directions. Simultaneously, the department is also facilitating businesses interested in exploring and proposing investment in the development of electric vehicle charging station infrastructure. Currently, one enterprise (Minh Anh Real Estate Exchange Joint Stock Company) has proposed surveying and researching the development of charging stations, charging poles, and battery swapping cabinets for electric vehicles in the province. The Department is guiding the enterprise to supplement the list of specific locations and related legal and technical documents so that there is a basis for consideration, compilation, and reporting to the Provincial People's Committee according to its authority.
The systematic planning and synchronized development of the charging station system not only meets the immediate needs of the people but also creates a foundation for the transition to green transportation, contributing to the achievement of sustainable development goals and green growth in the province in the future.
