TNT Sports has publicly apologized to viewers after its broadcast audio was unexpectedly cut off in the opening minutes of the game. |
The match took place at midday (local time), attracting a large audience, but viewers watching on TNT Sports only saw images without commentary or on-field sounds.
Immediately, a message appeared at the bottom of the screen apologizing for the audio outage and promising to fix it as soon as possible. A few minutes later, TNT Sports played another similar message as the problem remained unresolved.
After the sound was restored, chief commentator Darren Fletcher personally apologized to viewers for the unintentional incident, admitting it was a less-than-perfect start to the highly anticipated derby.
On the pitch, the game quickly heated up. New signing Matheus Cunha put the ball into the net against Leeds with a long-range shot, but the goal was disallowed due to Benjamin Sesko being offside earlier.
After the break, Brenden Aaronson capitalized on a mistake by Ayden Heaven to open the scoring, before the "Red Devils" quickly responded with an equalizer from Cunha, assisted by Joshua Zirkzee. The final minutes were closely contested with many wasted chances at both ends of the pitch, and the match ended 1-1.
The result extended Leeds' lead over the relegation zone to eight points, while Manchester United continued to miss out on a top-four finish.
