GDUCKY's rebellious side in rap

Although he gained fame from the first season of Rap Viet (2020), GDUCKY only officially released his first product three years later.

GDUCKY caught the attention of Rap Viet Season 1 viewers with his sharp lyrics, good musical sense, and warm rap voice.

Explaining why he didn't seize the opportunity and missed the "golden moment" to become a hot name, the male rapper explained: "After the success at Rap Viet , I struggled for a long time because of pressure and didn't really understand what I truly wanted... Only now do I realize that I should do what I love, instead of constantly worrying about whether the audience will be satisfied with my music and making things difficult for myself. I forgot that deep inside my soul, I should do what I love and cherish my own feelings..."

GDUCKY has just released his debut EP (a format consisting of more songs than a single and shorter than an album, based on a complete concept) titled G's , which includes 5 songs: Wish, Poison, Dreaming, 12345 , and Indoctrinated (shortly before, the music videos for Wish and 12345 were also released on YouTube). G's are 5 stories deeply personal to the rapper, told throughout and linked like a real journey, as the songs are coincidentally arranged in chronological order of their creation and production completion.

GDUCKY, whose real name is Dang Mai Viet Hoang, was born in 1998 in Hanoi ; he was honored in the Forbes Vietnam Under 30 list in 2022.

GDUCKY jokingly said that he "overused" his own emotions a bit in this "debut" product. The musical tone of the EP also darkens in order, reflecting the songs and his own painful experiences.

EP G's also features contributions from close colleagues such as: coach on Rap Viet and fellow artist Karik, female singer Luu Hien Trinh (who previously collaborated with him on the rap song "Tien Nhieu De Lam Gi" ), Thom (from the group Da LAB), and Gill. The arrangement and production were handled by producers 2pillz, WOKEUP, and Machiot. The EP's music incorporates melodic rap, afro, K-hiphop, and even influences from Kanye West's rap style.

Karik and GDUCKY, the "teacher and student," have maintained a close relationship both professionally and personally since Rap Viet .

Regarding his feelings about officially releasing the EP on digital music platforms and the physical version on December 12th, GDUCKY shared: "I feel incredibly happy right now, maybe an 8 out of 10 in terms of feeling. The music competition out there is incredibly fierce and intense. Being too greedy can be dangerous. Debuting with an EP is a way to relieve my own pressure, and after that, I will go find new sources of energy."

The runner-up of Rap Viet season 1 added, "Many friends, fans, and colleagues asked me why it took me three years to release my first product instead of a complete album? Actually, I composed and recorded many demos, but I filtered them down to the best rap tracks. Instead of choosing one idea, I chose five distinct styles. I hope listeners will enjoy my music with the same relaxed mindset as the creator of these raps."

Because, for GDUCKY, after listening to his music, the audience can judge him differently than they did during his time on Rap Viet , as long as he likes it and is satisfied. "I think I should be proud of my music. Many people say I lack rebellion in rap music, but they don't understand that my rebellion is that GDUCKY doesn't care what the world out there is doing."
