Although famous from Rap Viet season 1 (2020), it was not until 3 years later that GDUCKY officially released its first product.
GDUCKY caught the attention of Rap Viet season 1 audience with sharp rap lyrics, good musical sense and warm rap voice.
Explaining the reason for not taking advantage of the opportunity, missing the "golden moment" to become a hot name, the male rapper explained: "After the success at Rap Viet , I struggled for a long time because of pressure and not understanding what I really wanted... Only now did I realize that I should do what I like, instead of being afraid that the audience would not be satisfied with my music and making things difficult for myself. I forgot that inside my soul I have to do what I like, have to cherish my own emotions...".
GDUCKY has just released his debut EP (a format consisting of songs with more than 1 single and shorter than an album - according to a complete idea) called G's , including 5 songs: Wish, Poison, Dreaming, 12345 and Indoctrinated (not long before, 2 MVs of the songs Wish and 12345 were also released on YouTube). G's are 5 stories bearing the rapper's personal mark, told throughout and linked like a real journey, because coincidentally these songs are arranged in chronological order of birth as well as completion in terms of production.
GDUCKY's real name is Dang Mai Viet Hoang, born in 1998 in Hanoi ; he was honored in the Forbes Vietnam under 30 list in 2022.
GDUCKY joked that he had "overused" his emotions a bit in this "debut" product. The musical color of the EP also gradually darkens according to the order of the songs or his own painful experiences.
EP G's also features close colleagues such as: coach at Rap Viet and also his brother in the profession: Karik, female singer Luu Hien Trinh (who made a mark with him in the rap song What is the use of money ), Thom (Da LAB group) and Gill. The mixing and arrangement is done by producers: 2pillz, WOKEUP, Machiot. The music of the EP includes melodic rap, afro, K-hiphop or even influences from Kanye West's rap.
"Teacher and student" Karik and GDUCKY still maintain a close relationship in both work and life since Rap Viet until now.
Regarding his feelings when officially releasing the EP on digital music platforms as well as releasing the physical version on December 12, GDUCKY shared: "My feeling right now is very happy, maybe 8/10 if talking about the level of feeling. The music race out there is very terrible and stressful. Being too greedy will also be dangerous. Debut EP is a way to relieve my own pressure, after that, I will go find new sources of energy."
The runner-up of Rap Viet season 1 added, "Many friends, audiences, and colleagues asked me why it took me 3 years to release my first product instead of a complete album? Actually, I composed and recorded many demos but filtered out the most satisfactory raps. Instead of choosing an idea, I chose 5 distinct colors. I hope listeners will enjoy my music with a comfortable mindset like the owner of the raps themselves."
GDUCKY and artists collaborate on EP G's
Because, with GDUCKY, after listening to his music, the audience can see that he is not as good as when he was in the Rap Viet program, as long as he likes it and is satisfied. "I think I should be proud of my music. Many people say that I lack rebellion in rap music, but they don't understand that my rebellion is that GDUCKY doesn't care what the world out there is doing."
