Agricultural production in Long Dien commune has been restructured towards modern, high-value commodity production, applying technology, mechanization, and value chain linkages. The area of vegetables and fruit trees has increased significantly, gradually replacing less efficient rice cultivation. Many distinctive products are being developed using high technology, linked to processing and consumption. The national target program for building new rural areas has been effectively implemented, maintaining the standards of advanced new rural areas.
Upon arriving in Long Dien, we clearly saw a thriving economy and a rapidly developing urban area with densely packed high-rise buildings, brick houses, furniture showrooms, shops, and a mix of commerce and services… The sounds of saws, planes, and chisels from saws, cutting machines, and planers echoed in the distance; the humming of wood carving machines, and the faint scent of wood and paint filled the air along the long stretch of road through the carpentry villages of Cho Thu and My Luong, the glass painting craft, especially along Provincial Road 946 and National Highway 80B.
When talking about Long Dien, everyone knows about the famous century-old craft village renowned throughout the Mekong Delta: the traditional small-scale woodworking village of Thu Market, established in 1892. Mr. Tran Minh Doan, a representative of the village, said: “The village has stood the test of time and thrived thanks to its diverse range of products, from household goods to carved art products for tourism and interior decoration; many wood products have high artistic value thanks to the support of technology, machinery, and skilled craftsmanship. We have formed many groups of craftsmen specializing in interior decoration, meeting the aesthetic tastes and increasingly high demands of customers. The market is wide open; our products are not only consumed in the Mekong Delta and Ho Chi Minh City but also exported to Laos and Cambodia.”

Industry and small-scale handicrafts developed, especially some traditional industries and trades, which were well maintained and promoted, contributing to the overall growth of the commune.”
The locality has creatively applied the motto "The people know, the people discuss, the people do, the people inspect, the people supervise, and the people benefit" in its leadership and management. Pham Xuan Dao, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Long Dien commune, said: "The campaigns and patriotic emulation movements launched by the commune's Fatherland Front are aimed at socio-economic development, building new rural areas and civilized urban areas, and sustainable poverty reduction. From there, we mobilize the combined strength of the people to participate in self-governance models, build bridges, roads, and houses, support each other in production and business, and engage in activities of gratitude, humanitarian aid, and charity… contributing positively to building a clean and strong government."
"The local campaign to pave rural roads with concrete has brought great joy to the people here, demonstrating the solidarity and responsibility of the community, the concern of the government leaders, and the generosity of the donors," said Mr. Do Quang Trung, a resident of Long Thuan 2 hamlet.
Currently, the Long Dien Commune Party Committee has 43 subordinate branches with 1,146 party members. The emulation movement to build "Four Good Party Branches" and "Four Good Party Committees" has been effectively implemented, contributing to improving the quality of grassroots party organizations and party members. Nguyen Ngoc Thuy Dung, Secretary of the Long Phu 1 Hamlet Party Branch, commented: "All 23 party members in the branch have strong political convictions and actively contribute to the locality in their respective positions, including retired party members, party members working in the hamlet's leadership board, and a few who run family businesses or work as freelancers."
Entering a new phase, upholding revolutionary traditions, Long Dien commune identifies socio-economic development as the central focus, Party building as the key, cultural development as the foundation of society, and ensuring national defense and security as crucial and ongoing priorities. “The locality will focus on building a clean, strong, streamlined, efficient, and effective political system; developing the commune towards a civilized urban area and a modern rural area, taking digital transformation, scientific and technological development, and innovation as breakthroughs for development,” said Le Tran Minh Hieu, Chairman of the People's Committee of Long Dien commune.
