According to SpoTV News , on the evening of August 23rd, Suga, a member of the K-pop group BTS, appeared at the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul to cooperate with the investigation into an incident involving drunk driving on an electric scooter that occurred on August 6th.
Appearing before the press with short hair and a suit, Suga (real name Min Yoon Gi, 31 years old) bowed his head and expressed his remorse.
"First of all, I am very sorry. I am truly remorseful for causing such great disappointment to so many fans and the public. I will honestly cooperate with the investigation. I apologize once again," the artist expressed.
The incident in question occurred on August 6th, when Suga fell while riding his electric scooter near his home in Hannam-dong, Yongsan District, Seoul. Patrol officers discovered him and conducted a breathalyzer test.
Initially, Suga claimed he had only drunk one glass of beer before driving. However, test results showed his blood alcohol level was 0.227%, far exceeding the legal limit of 0.2%.
The situation became even more complicated when Suga's side initially described the vehicle as an "electric skateboard" instead of an electric motorcycle, raising suspicions of an attempt to downplay the severity of the incident. Additionally, information about Suga paying the fine and returning his driver's license before being officially penalized also sparked controversy.
According to SpoTV News , the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul had previously charged Suga with violating the Road Traffic Act (driving under the influence of alcohol). In today's investigation, authorities are expected to clarify the details surrounding the incident, including the route Suga took and the distance he drove while intoxicated.
This is the first time Suga has been seen in front of the police since the incident. He is currently serving as a community service worker at an organization in Yongsan District and goes to the police station after work.
The incident has caused a public uproar and raised concerns about the behavior of famous artists. Fans and the public are awaiting the results of the investigation as well as an official response from BTS's management company, HYBE.
