As analyzed in the previous article on installing three child seats in the second row of the Toyota Corolla Cross urban SUV, the rear of vehicles of similar size is almost impossible to fit three full-size child seats or large booster seats.
In this test, the reporter tried fitting three different types of seats into the second row of a slightly larger SUV, the Lynk & Co 01. The vehicle has exterior dimensions of 4,549 × 1,860 × 1,689 mm (length x width x height), with a wheelbase of 2,734 mm.
Fits 3 child seats.
For the initial setup, the reporter tested three different car seats: a large child seat from Nuna, a booster seat with lumbar support, and a car bassinet for infants from Cybex. All three products were full-size but lacked 360-degree swivel functionality. These were all safety devices meeting international standards such as FMVSS No. 213 and ECE R44/04, featuring a wide frame and thick body support padding surrounding the child.
The two large seats on either side are fitted to the vehicle via the ISOFIX system, and the bassinet is attached using seat belts.

As you can see, the space in the second row of the Lynk & Co 01 is just enough to fit three adult seats. This is also a suitable solution for families with three children who need child seats, especially families who have just welcomed a newborn.
However, if all three child seats are installed in the second row, the entire cabin space becomes more cramped.
To ensure enough space for the center bassinet and the child entry/exit area, the front seats also need to be moved forward. This means that if three seats are installed for three children in the second row of the car, parents sitting in the driver's and passenger's seats will have to "sacrifice" front legroom.
When replacing the booster seat with a larger seat that has a 360-degree swivel base, the space in the middle of the seat is significantly reduced, making it impossible to fit a bassinet for the child.
If there are two children in the house, can an adult sit in the second row?
On social media, besides discussions about choosing car seats for families with three children, the need for second-row seating for children in families with two children has also become a topic of interest for many car owners.
According to many, parents, especially mothers, tend to sit near their children to easily care for and comfort them during long journeys, particularly when children are getting used to sitting alone in a car seat.
The reporter also tried installing two seats and booster cushions on either side of the second row of the Lynk & Co 01. It was observed that after removing the middle bassinet, the space in the second row was just enough for one adult.

However, due to the padding and frame of the two adjacent seats being affected, this space is only "moderately comfortable" to sit in, not comfortable enough for a family to travel long distances.
In general, for families with two children and where parents still need to sit in the second row, installing two extra seats and "sacrificing" comfort to care for the children is entirely possible, but this is only a temporary solution. For families with two or three children or more, the best solution is still to upgrade to a family car from a 5-seater to a 7-seater with three rows of seats.
Popular MPV models like the Mitsubishi Xpander, Toyota Veloz Cross, or Hyundai Stargazer are economical choices that provide ample space for the whole family on long journeys.
