Established in 2016, the Nam Hong Quang Clean Livestock Cooperative in Trung Thuan commune initially focused on small-scale integrated livestock farming and processing of smoked chicken and pork leg products. However, after many years of operation with limited efficiency, the cooperative took a new step by boldly changing its production model and investing in machinery and technology for the processing process. From a small-scale, traditional farming model, the cooperative has invested in building a closed-loop, clean livestock farming model.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong, Director of Nam Hong Quang Clean Integrated Livestock Cooperative, said: "Previously, the cooperative raised chickens for processing into smoked chicken products. However, traditional farming methods did not yield high productivity and efficiency."
Therefore, the cooperative decided to switch to a model of raising chickens in enclosed, cold-storage facilities. With this new model, the entire rearing process is strictly controlled, from the breeding stock to the feed and water, helping to reduce disease and environmental pollution. Currently, the cooperative is raising 3,500 chickens. This farming model helps the cooperative ensure a supply of eggs and meat for processing into smoked chicken products.

Due to market demand and relatively large order volumes, in addition to proactively raising livestock to supply processed food, the cooperative is also investing in building additional processing facilities. By the end of 2025, the cooperative will invest 2 billion VND to import a large quantity of machinery for processing smoked chicken, duck, and goose products, as well as machinery for making sausages and meatballs. It is expected that after launching the new products, the cooperative will develop the necessary infrastructure to ensure these products meet OCOP (One Commune One Product) standards.
In line with the shift in production structure, many cooperatives have changed their approach from providing small-scale services to a model that integrates into the value chain. Many cooperatives have quickly adopted modern machinery and technology in production, applying clean, closed-loop, organic, and environmentally friendly farming methods. Many cooperatives have also adopted VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards and participated in the OCOP program to meet traceability requirements.
The province currently has 700 agricultural cooperatives with over 114,000 members; of which 100/700 cooperatives apply high technology, accounting for 14.2% of the total number of agricultural cooperatives; 195/700 agricultural cooperatives participate in production and product consumption linkages, accounting for 27.9%; and 162 products from 96 cooperatives have achieved OCOP product rating of 3 stars or higher. Average revenue is over 1,400 million VND/cooperative, with an average profit of approximately 150 million VND/cooperative.
Ms. Dinh Thi Quynh Hoa, Chairwoman of the Provincial Cooperative Union, stated: "Previously, cooperative models in localities faced some limitations such as fragmented and scattered operations and small scale. However, now, with their agility and ability to grasp market trends, cooperatives have boldly innovated, expanded their scale, and applied technology to agricultural production. Expanding the scale of cooperatives is not simply about increasing the number of members, but about transforming from a traditional management model to a modern one. This further affirms the core role of cooperatives in the development of agriculture and the local economy ."
In the coming period, the Provincial Cooperative Union will encourage cooperatives in the province to gradually promote digital transformation, apply science and technology, build brands, and connect with consumer markets. The goal is to build a new, sustainable, and competitive cooperative model.
